Wes Miller and Kevin White were seated courtside last night for Hornets & Knicks, right beside Charlotte-area rapper DaBaby. Looks to have been an interesting time, to say the least. (NSFW)

It’s official. After five seasons covering Charlotte athletics for the Charlotte Observer, I’m taking my coverage independent. I explain what that means, why I’m doing it, and what’s coming next in the video below. Subscribe to my Substack here:

At Ohio, Tim Albin lost just 10 games spanning three seasons (2022-24), earning MAC Coach of the Year and a MAC Championship along the way. Since coming to Charlotte, he’s 1-12, losing 10 games in a row. I asked him about his confidence level, and how that impacts the team:

What’s it like sitting next to DaBaby at a Charlotte Charlotte Hornets game? Had to ask new Charlotte 49ers’ men’s basketball head coach Wes Miller. “(DaBaby) is from Charlotte, and hopefully we’ll get him to some games here (at Halton). He definitely has passion.”

From a couple of weeks ago on the Highway 49 Podcast - watch out for Jizzle James potentially following Wes Miller from Cincinnati to Charlotte. James, the son of NFL legend Edgerrin James, averaged 10.9 ppg, 2.2 rpg and 2.1 apg while shooting 44.2% from beyond the arc last season.

"I think what's going to happen is a lot of schools are going to have to choose. You could not put together last year's team (today) because it has changed. The market has gone up. If you had $1M last year, you need $3M-4M." Biff Poggi on NIL at CLT. YT:
