A heated discussion yesterday with Piers Morgan Uncensored but important points were made, not least about the asymmetry of this conflict. Asymmetry in power, asymmetry in the reporting of main stream international media, asymmetry in how victims are portrayed, asymmetry in condemnation, asymmetry in terminology. There has to be context and we must reinstate hope for the millions of Palestinians under oppression that there can be a better future.

We welcome the British Government’s historic decision to formally recognise the State of Palestine. Today is not just about Palestine, but about Britain’s fulfilment of a solemn responsibility. This long-overdue recognition marks an end to Britain’s denial of the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination. Recognition is not a destination, but an opening of a new chapter to right the wrongs of the past, stop the genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, and end the unlawful occupation.

Meet Abeer and Shaban Zomlot, mourning the murder of their mother, Taghreed Zomlot, in northern Gaza yesterday. Abeer is heard asking how she will break the news to her youngest sister, Leen, who is 14 years old. Taghreed was 51, a mother of six, and my cousin. She was hanging clothes to dry in a yard of her semi-destroyed home in Beit Lahia when an Israeli drone shot her in the back and killed her instantly. Taghreed is one of dozens of my family killed— cousins I grew up with, lives erased for refusing to leave their homes. Taghreed was among 10 people killed yesterday, and among more than 1,000 Palestinians killed by Israel since President Trump’s ceasefire and peace plan announcement last October. There is no ceasefire. There is no peace. While millions mobilise around the world to stop the genocide and end the occupation, governments choose empty statements over action. The killings continue with impunity. #Gaza #Palestine

A few seconds saved my nephew Ammar, 8, from being killed today. An Israeli bomb struck a residential building that contained a shop in south of #Gaza, where he was going to buy bread along with other children who had been forcibly displaced from the north for their “safety”. This is the kind of war crime the US and UK are enabling with their “unequivocal” support for Israel. Unconscionable, immoral and illegal. Our people will not allow for a second #Nakba. The UK and the international community need to ensure protection for Palestinian civilians, since the occupying power is clearly intent on more mass killing and destruction. Enough!

This is an unnamed premature baby. His mother, Fatima al-Hirsh, was killed by Israel's bombardment on Gaza along with his entire family. She was still pregnant, and doctors delivered him as she drew her last breath. We will name him Naji, survivor, for now. Israel’s aggression is threatening Naji’s life and the lives of 130 premature babies, who face imminent death if Israel continues to block deliveries of fuel and medicines. Already more than 2000 Palestinian children killed by Israeli air strikes. What justifies this? Nothing!

Summary Executions in occupied West Bank: Earlier today, Israeli occupation forces executed two young men after detaining them near #Jenin refugee camp following a military raid in the northern West Bank. This is a war crime and part of a pattern across the occupied territory. International statements of condemnation are not enough—criminals must be held accountable. #Palestine #WestBank #Jenin #HumanRights
