Yesterday, I joined leaders and stakeholders from across the South-South in Asaba for the APC Zonal Congress, an important step in strengthening our party’s structure and unity ahead of the future. It was a moment of reflection, renewed commitment, and collective resolve to deepen grassroots engagement and ensure that the ideals of justice, peace, and progress continue to guide our actions. I congratulate the newly inaugurated Zonal Executive Committee and wish them a successful and impactful tenure as they work to strengthen the party across the region. Together, we move forward, stronger, united, and focused on delivering meaningful impact for our people.

This morning, I was truly delighted to join His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and other top government officials at the groundbreaking ceremony of the ₦59.7 billion Uromi Junction Flyover project in Ika South LGA. As the immediate past Governor of Delta State, I sincerely commend Governor Oborevwori for the peace and stability he has sustained in the state, as well as the remarkable work he continues to do across Delta North and Delta State as a whole. He has continued to make me very proud. This landmark project will greatly ease traffic congestion at the Uromi Junction, enhance road safety, improve connectivity, and boost economic activities in the area and beyond. I appreciate the Governor’s commitment to development and pray that God grants him the grace to deliver even more impactful projects across the state for the benefit of our people.

At the 4th Founder’s Day Celebration of the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, my lecture on ‘Nation Building: The Search for a Nigeria That Works for All’ also touched on the vital role of education in national development. Unlocking Nigeria’s full potential requires substantial investment in education and research, ensuring equitable access to quality learning for all. All levels of government must collaborate to drastically reduce the number of out-of-school children, as education remains a fundamental driver of progress and social transformation. A crucial priority is shaping students into informed, patriotic citizens who understand both Nigeria and the global landscape. The curriculum must emphasize civic education, national consciousness, and entrepreneurial training to build a productive and innovative economy. Graduates should be globally competitive, proficient in information technology, and actively engaged in emerging global discussions, particularly in Artificial Intelligence. A strong research culture is essential, with scientific advancements closely linked to industry. To support this, the university should explore innovative funding strategies, including allocating a portion of internally generated revenue to research. Furthermore, UNIDEL should establish a consultancy unit in key fields such as engineering, environmental science, agriculture, and accounting to generate revenue and contribute to industry growth. Strengthening the “Town and Gown” relationship is also crucial, leveraging community partnerships for mutual benefit. By focusing on these strategic priorities, the University of Delta can solidify its position as a leader in higher education, making a lasting impact on its students, the economy, and the broader national development agenda.

It was a day of profound gratitude at the Government House Chapel in Asaba, as we joined the family and friends of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other esteemed leaders and officials from across Delta State at a prayer and thanksgiving service to mark yesterday’s Supreme Court victory. Yesterday’s verdict was a testament to the trust and confidence placed in Governor Oborevwori and his administration by the citizens of Delta State, and we stand united in our support. I pray that the Almighty God will continue to guide our Governor with wisdom, fortitude, and resolve as he leads our beloved state towards a brighter future!
