Every day I wake up and ask myself the question every Expat ponders: "How can I gentrify Mexico City a little harder than yesterday?"

One thing I always find funny about Mexico City is how many expats say it's expensive now 🇲🇽 One issue is the exchange rate but that always goes up and down. I've seen that over the 9 years here. High at 24, low at 16. But another factor is that they're only looking at overpriced places like this in just 1 or 2 neighborhoods And it's ironic how many of them will have the balls to travel to another country (Mexico) but don't have the balls to look at neighborhoods outside Roma or Condesa I've heard many of them say that the rest of CDMX is poor or dangerous By how they describe it, you'd think they think that the rest of CDMX is controlled by the ghosts of Pablo Escobar and Osama Bin Laden Take one step outside Condesa and you are DEAD 💀 Yes, most of the city isn't suitable by expat standards but they don't know that from experience or research. They only say that because most travelers are Lonely Planet types. If those other areas aren't recommended by Lonely Planet or their favorite YouTuber, they act like it doesn't exist And there ARE plenty of liveable areas outside Roma and Condesa Roma isn't even that great imo. It's OK The only real argument for CDMX being expensive is when you compare it to most of LATAM, not the US 🇺🇸 Because even Polanco looks cheap compared to the equivalent in NYC But yeah, you can definitely find way cheaper cities in the rest of LATAM Though having explored many of those areas, I'd say much of LATAM doesn't hold a candle to CDMX when it comes to quality of living, entertainment options, closeness to the US, etc That's one of the reasons CDMX is so popular: it has more of a complete package while still being relatively cheap to the US 🔥

THE BEST TACOS OF CDMX 🇲🇽 I don't think there's an easy answer to which spot in CDMX has "the best taco" Because it depends on the type of meat (barbacoa, birria, etc) And everyone has their own tastes But having eaten at easily a 1000 or more spots across CDMX over the decade and hunting down all the spots locals love, these are my 10 favorite spots right now (in no particular order) 👇 1) Pa’Tacos "El Papi" (get the milanesa tacos) 🌮 Address: Ote 91 3229, Mártires de Río Blanco, Gustavo A. Remembering that time I lived in the dangerous "red zone" of a Mexican town called San Miguel Ajusco 🇲🇽 I was at a store around 11 PM buying tequila when an old lady asked me "You new here? I never seen you before. What country you from?" She was SHOCKED when I explained I moved to her town alone with no friends or family "It's DANGEROUS here. Zona Roja 💀" I had been there for a month already and felt perfectly safe lol Wasn't as bad as when I lived in Iztapalapa or Cuautepec She was nice but just giving me a warning to be careful After buying the tequila, I went to get some tacos at some spot called "Taco Sabas" 🌮 I ate there many times. Good tacos campechanos. But I stopped eating there after my last visit had me vomiting in a toilet The adventures we take for tacos 🚬 Anyway, here's what the midnight walk I'd take often looked like in the "red zone" after resupplying on tequila or tacos If you listen closely, you might even hear Juan Martha México Mágico 🇲🇽

I've seen the claim countless times online 👇 "We Mexicans don't eat flour tortillas. That's gringo shit!" It's a seperate argument as to if flour tortillas are traditional or original to Mexican cuisine 🇲🇽 But claiming no Mexicans eat them is simply false. When challenged, people often reply 👇 “Only northern Mexicans or tourists eat them.” That’s also untrue. Flour tortillas are less common than corn ones, and most taco spots don’t offer them. Yet in Mexico City, I’ve seen plenty of places selling flour tortilla tacos 🔥 And I’m almost always the only gringo The rest of the customers are local Mexicans Right now, I’m at a midnight street food spot in Lagunilla with zero tourists 💪 As you can see in the video I took, plenty of locals are enjoying flour tortilla tacos 😋 I’d even argue they’ve become noticeably more popular over the last couple of years compared to when I moved here nearly a decade ago. So yes, plenty of Mexicans enjoy flour tortillas. Now if we could only get them to adopt hard-shell tacos 🌮 Someday, amigos 😏
