8:30 am. Tempted to go out on roof, but opening door could lead to serious damage &amp; would be irresponsible. Trying to decide where to ride out #typhoon. I think lobby's gonna get interesting in eyewall, &amp; it'd be magical to view eye from highrise. So I'm hesitant to leave.

My hotel on Hailing Island was damaged by #Typhoon #RAGASA's explosive gusts. But what struck me was the almost complete mowing down of trees on certain parts of the property—like this one. By the time the eye arrived, barely a tree was left standing in this shady, green plaza.

Woke up to this strange view. The window above my bed. Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi.

Oldie But Goodie. On a scale of 1 to 10, how sexy is this? 11? 12?

In the eye of #Hurricane #MILTON in Downtown Sarasota #Florida. A deeply calm, meditative eye. Absolutely spectacular.

8:35 pm. In the eye of #Hurricane #MILTON in Downtown Sarasota. A dead-calm eye. Dead. Calm. Pretty tripping. Destructive winds will soon return with the hurricane's backside.

Almost 7 am near the N tip of Ishigaki-jima. #Typhoon #BAVI's structure had gotten kind of weird— this thing's a freak show—but I believe I'm near it in its center. (I'll post a radar shot in the comments.)

Update from the road as I chase #Typhoon #BAVI. In Taiwan, heading for Japan.

Small taste of #Hurricane #MELISSA on SW coast of #Jamaica, just as we started getting raked by violent right eyewall. Belive it or not, this was before the peak conditions, when everything turned white, the screaming sound became unbearable, &amp; we needed to bolt the door shut.

Downtown Ishigaki overnight. Ghostly howls &amp; empty, windswept streets. #Typhoon #BAVI's core is still well offshore. Center will make closest approach to the port around daybreak. #Japan

Hey, from Ochlockonee Bay. This place could see #Hurricane #HELENE's peak surge. And this may be where I ride it out. If it stays on track.

A wave got me. Crashed up over the seawall &amp; threw me against the patio railing, then penetrated deep into the hotel restaurant. I'm ok—just scratches &amp; bruises. A good lesson about respecting the power of water! (Watch to the end.) #Typhoon #FUNGWONG in #Philippines

Heading S, down the spine of Ishigaki-jima. Left that dead-calm area (the main eye or whatever we're calling it) &amp; getting back into stormy conditions on SW side of #Thphoon #BAVI. Nothing crazy, but not calm like before.

Highway 90 along the #Mississippi Gulf Coast was downright treacherous this afternoon as #ARTHUR's ghost lashed the region.

Boom! No wind yet, but the sea is getting angry &amp; aggressive. A tremendous wave just crashed over the seawall and into the hotel's restaurant. Tonight's gonna get hairy in Baler. #Typhoon #FUNGWONG #Philippines

5 pm. At a critical juncture in this chase. Profoundly conflicted feelings. #Hurricane #HELENE

Winds on #Hurricane #MILTON’s backside—after the calm eye passed—were more destructive than winds on the front side. Fierce gusts smashed or tore out almost every single window of this large office building in Downtown Sarasota.

9:03 pm. Wind suddenly picking up again. First just a rustle, now an impatient breeze. We're going back into #Hurricane #MILTON's eyewall in Sarasota.

7:25 pm.. Just outside eyewall of #Hurricane #MILTON in Sarasota. Wind starting to rip.

Starting to have storm surge concerns as #Typhoon #FUNGWONG approaches Baler #Philippines. It's possible the ocean might top this seawall, wash over the promenade, &amp; crash into these seaside hotels. Like mine.

Thoughts from Baler #Philippines at dusk as Cat-5 Super #Typhoon #MANYI (#PepitoPH) heads this way. Do folks understand what's coming?

5:35 pm. Just outside eyewall of Hurricane #MILTON in Sarasota. No storm surge yet because winds are blowing offshore &amp; pushing water away. That's gonna change as wind shifts.
