As government passed registration of PAs/AAs by the GMC today one particular clip really intrigued me: Thérèse Coffey here talks about having 1:3 supervision for AAs 🤔 We have to also remember she was health secretary - she’s seemingly marking her own homework here.

This is Jeannie Watkins, one of the key architects of the PA programme You can hear her saying to a cohort of PA students ‘we teach you medicine, it is condensed and it is intense’ Then repeats ‘we are teaching you medicine it’s supposed to be challenging, we make no apologies for it’

Have a listen to this. A PA in University Hospitals Birmingham in vascular surgery doing: - toe amputations - full amputations co-operating with Reg or Consultant - doing a 3 day surgical skill training course for ST5 regs - open up the patient and harvest the vein - own clinics This is a PA. Remind me what anatomy and physiology knowledge they get to be able to remotely say this is safe? Have their patients consented to this? I’m absolutely in shock

Are physician (and anaesthesia) associates safe? Hear more about the evidence to date from Prof Greenhalgh on BBC Radio 4 Today TL;DR: - ZERO evidence of safety in the U.K. - Already cost lives - PA knowledge and expertise is very different to that in the USA.

No need for Royal College exams and no need for PLAB How GMC registrations are being given with different standards… all comes at a price of course. Just wondering - do we not have enough doctors who could do with the training to become registrars/middle grades and consultants? 1) there are doctors already in the U.K. stuck in bottlenecks. 2) importing at consultant level increases those bottle necks 3) the contracts that these IMGs are brought over on are substandard 4) trusts are exploiting IMGs 5) trusts will most likely start to terminate or not extend these contracts in the next few years when we start to see a massive reduction in doctor led care in the NHS (for example what % is now doctor led care in primary care) 6) these IMGs will be left in limbo 7) all this whilst 20,000 doctors leave a year - partially due to lack of training opportunities 8) this is an easy way of making money rather than solving the ACTUAL problem 9) Not to mention the lack of standards and governance being followed. 10) There is mandatory fee included for signing up to MDS as part of these fees too - not leaving the doctor free to sign up to any other defence org should they wish to 11) The links between BAPIO, BTA and MDS are interesting and they need further delving into especially in regard to governance and structure 12) Dr Geeta Menon has a humungous conflict of interest - one which would no go down in any public inquiry - in the world of finance and stocks this would be called insider trading. 13) the person is giving a 99% guarantee that GMC registration will happen I would like to ask all those parties involved in this - that’s GMC, BAPIO, NHS E WTE, Trusts, TERN etc - what have you done to actually solve the root cause? Can you show me in documentation how all other channels to solve the above have been absolutely exhausted first before taking these actions? 14) trusts also pay up to 30% of their doctors annual salary as a recruitment fee. This video was sent to me by a doctor friend who was thinking about coming across to the U.K. - to which I suggested probably not the right place for them. Does this sound like actions of organisations that want the best for eh tax payer and U.K. NHS and its doctors especially those in training or stuck as LED roles/SAS etc?

Hi Prof ‘They learn clinical tasks that doctors do’ ‘It’s different to nursing, physio… much more like what doctors do’ ‘We have a desperate need for those doing clinical tasks’ ‘We don’t want someone that wants to be a doctor’ Can I ask ‘WHY DIDNT YOU INCREASE MEDICAL SCHOOL PLACES?!’ Also 50-60% applied to medical school - so you have failed

Does anyone now think Labour and Conservatives are different when it comes to approach to the NHS? She was the CEO of Operose Health- the organisation that replaced their GPs and ran their services on PAs as caught by Panorama. Wes Streeting is showing us it’s more of the same
