History should be preserved, not rewritten. Tarique Rahman’s remarks on the declaration of independence misrepresent well-established history. His suggestion that Ziaur Rahman declared independence on March 25 contradicts the historical record. Ziaur Rahman, then a Major, announced the declaration on March 27 on behalf of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, nearly 40 hours after Mujib’s arrest.
