#IndianNavy thwarts designs of Somali pirates to hijack ships plying through the region by intercepting ex-MV Ruen. The ex-MV Ruen, which had been hijacked by Somali pirates on #14Dec 23, was reported to have sailed out as a pirate ship towards conducting acts of #piracy on high seas. The vessel was intercepted by the #IndianNavy warship on #15Mar. The vessel opened fire on the warship, which is taking actions iaw international law, in self-defence & to counter piracy, with minimal force necessary to neutralise the pirates’ threat to shipping and seafarers. The pirates onboard the vessel have been called upon to surrender & release the vessel & any civilians they may be holding against their will. The #IndianNavy remains committed to #maritimesecurity & safety of seafarers in the region.

Fire onboard MV #MarlinLuanda brought under control Based on request from Master of the MV, the fire fighting team from #INSVisakhapatnam comprising 10 Indian Naval personnel with specialist fire fighting equipment embarked the vessel in early hours of #27Jan 24. After six hours of battling the fire along with the crew of the MV, the fire fighting team has successfully brought the fire under control. The team is currently monitoring the situation to rule out any possibility of reignition. #INSVisakhapatnam had responded to distress call from MV #MarlinLuanda & proceeded to provide assistance. A US & French warship also responded to the distress call. #IndianNavy remains steadfast in her commitment towards safety of merchant shipping & seafarers.

OPERATION SINDOOR Immediately after the cowardly Pakistani sponsored #PahalgamTerrorAttack, the Indian Navy validated the anti-missile and anti-aircraft defence capability in a complex threat environment using a cross platform cooperative mechanism. The operation leveraged #IndianNavy's comprehensive layered Fleet Air Defence mechanism, enabling quick and clear distinction between commercial, neutral and hostile aircraft or flying objects, and neutralisation of threats at extended ranges. The #IndianNavy is conducting an Outreach Programme at Naval Sailing Node, Bhopal for National Cadet Corps cadets and youth from local schools and colleges. The programme aims to provide participants an opportunity to interact with the Indian Navy and gain exposure to naval life, maritime activities, watermanship and adventure sports, while promoting discipline, leadership and team spirit. Approximately 120 participants are being covered through interactions with prominent institutions in Bhopal, including IES College, Prestige College, RNTU, BSS College, Oriental College, People’s College, Millennium College and Chirayu College. #IndianNavy successfully evacuates a Critically injured #Chinese Mariner from Bulk Carrier ZHONG SHAN MEN, 200nm (approx 370km) from #Mumbai. Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre, Mumbai received a distress call on PM #23Jul 24 from the bulk carrier reporting heavy blood loss due to critical injury to 51 Yr old mariner requesting immediate evacuation. Responding to the medical emergency, a Seaking helo was launched from #IndianNavy Air Station #INSShikra at 0550 hrs today. Challenging weather conditions with winds over 45 knots & heavy rolling of the ship were compunded by non-availability of continuous deck. The patient was successfully airlifted from the bridge wing of the vessel & transported back to the air station by andsubsequently shifted to hospital for further medical management. #ICGSSamrat in area was also diverted to render assistance. The safe & timely evacuation of the patient was a result of #jointoperation coordinated by MRCC (MBI) with #IndianNavy. Indian Coast Guard Western Naval Command #MaritimeSafety

He was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the South Block Lawns, New Delhi, followed by bilateral discussions with Adm Krishna Swaminathan, #CNS. Fire onboard MV #MarlinLuanda brought under control Based on request from Master of the MV, the fire fighting team from #INSVisakhapatnam comprising 10 Indian Naval personnel with specialist fire fighting equipment embarked the vessel in early hours of #27Jan 24. After six hours of battling the fire along with the crew of the MV, the fire fighting team has successfully brought the fire under control. The team is currently monitoring the situation to rule out any possibility of reignition. #INSVisakhapatnam had responded to distress call from MV #MarlinLuanda & proceeded to provide assistance. A US & French warship also responded to the distress call. #IndianNavy remains steadfast in her commitment towards safety of merchant shipping & seafarers.

Another milestone in indigenous Shipbuilding! Yard 3037, being constructed under Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV) project, was launched at GRSE - Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd , Kolkata on #11Aug 2026 by Mrs Manika Sadhu in the presence of VAdm Sanjay Sadhu, Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition. The construction of NGOPVs is concurrently being undertaken at two shipyards (Goa Shipyard Ltd & #GRSE). These indigenously built ships will be utilised for multi domain operations, such as maritime surveillance, search & rescue, protection of offshore assets and anti-piracy missions. NGOPVs derive their names from India’s rich heritage, with this ship being named as ‘Shruti’, referring to four Vedas.
