#IndianNavy thwarts designs of Somali pirates to hijack ships plying through the region by intercepting ex-MV Ruen. The ex-MV Ruen, which had been hijacked by Somali pirates on #14Dec 23, was reported to have sailed out as a pirate ship towards conducting acts of #piracy on high seas. The vessel was intercepted by the #IndianNavy warship on #15Mar. The vessel opened fire on the warship, which is taking actions iaw international law, in self-defence & to counter piracy, with minimal force necessary to neutralise the pirates’ threat to shipping and seafarers. The pirates onboard the vessel have been called upon to surrender & release the vessel & any civilians they may be holding against their will. The #IndianNavy remains committed to #maritimesecurity & safety of seafarers in the region.

Fire onboard MV #MarlinLuanda brought under control Based on request from Master of the MV, the fire fighting team from #INSVisakhapatnam comprising 10 Indian Naval personnel with specialist fire fighting equipment embarked the vessel in early hours of #27Jan 24. After six hours of battling the fire along with the crew of the MV, the fire fighting team has successfully brought the fire under control. The team is currently monitoring the situation to rule out any possibility of reignition. #INSVisakhapatnam had responded to distress call from MV #MarlinLuanda & proceeded to provide assistance. A US & French warship also responded to the distress call. #IndianNavy remains steadfast in her commitment towards safety of merchant shipping & seafarers.

OPERATION SINDOOR Immediately after the cowardly Pakistani sponsored #PahalgamTerrorAttack, the Indian Navy validated the anti-missile and anti-aircraft defence capability in a complex threat environment using a cross platform cooperative mechanism. The operation leveraged #IndianNavy's comprehensive layered Fleet Air Defence mechanism, enabling quick and clear distinction between commercial, neutral and hostile aircraft or flying objects, and neutralisation of threats at extended ranges. The #CarrierBattleGroup with its integral Air Wing provides the first layer of this layered mechanism. The presence of our #AircraftCarrier with a large number of Mig 29K fighters and Air Borne Early Warning helicopters prevented any suspicious or hostile aircraft from closing within several hundred kilometres. Our powerful CBG, with formidable offensive capability was able to operate with impunity and maintained an uncontested presence in the area of operations, compelling the Pakistani Air Elements to remain bottled up close to the coast denying any opportunity to be a threat in maritime space. Fire onboard MV #MarlinLuanda brought under control Based on request from Master of the MV, the fire fighting team from #INSVisakhapatnam comprising 10 Indian Naval personnel with specialist fire fighting equipment embarked the vessel in early hours of #27Jan 24. After six hours of battling the fire along with the crew of the MV, the fire fighting team has successfully brought the fire under control. The team is currently monitoring the situation to rule out any possibility of reignition. #INSVisakhapatnam had responded to distress call from MV #MarlinLuanda & proceeded to provide assistance. A US & French warship also responded to the distress call. #IndianNavy remains steadfast in her commitment towards safety of merchant shipping & seafarers.

Over 15 static and mobile medical teams will complement the existing health services on L&M Islands by augmenting the medical equipment, stores, and medicines, and enabling on-site access to specialist and super-specialist care from across the country. A dedicated ophthalmology team has also been deployed at Kavaratti to undertake cataract surgeries for eligible patients. Reflecting the spirit of flagship national initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), the camp integrates and provides curative care with preventive and promotive health services to those residing in the most remote regions of the country. Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh in his video message reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to bringing quality healthcare closer to citizens in remote areas, in furtherance of the vision of ‘Swasth Bharat’, and expressed confidence that the camp by bringing together a comprehensive medical setup on a single platform would contribute to long-term health benefits for the island community.
