Reality: One quarter of weak growth after periods of contraction. Our mortgages, energy bills and council tax are still rising. He claims net migration is down 82%. Reality: The numbers dropped, but small boats are still coming, hotels are full, and pressure on housing and services remains. He claims the asylum backlog is down 46%. Reality: They cleared part of it by granting more claims. The appeals backlog has nearly doubled. He claims NHS waiting lists are the lowest in three-and-a-half years. Reality: 7.1 million people are still waiting, higher than 2010 and 2019. Your mother's hip replacement is still delayed. Your child's mental health referral is still ignored. He claims free school meals, breakfast clubs and childcare. Reality: Paid for by our higher taxes. Nothing is free. While we're paying higher taxes and higher bills, they're sitting behind closed doors working out how to take even more from us. At the same time, billions are being sent overseas to fill other people's bank accounts and foreign projects. He's very proud. We're the ones paying for it.

He calls it protection. One must admire the artistry of the lie. All of it delivered from behind the soft, emotional shield of family photographs and childhood anecdotes. A man who cannot win on facts must win on feelings. It is the oldest, most cynical trick in the politician’s well-thumbed playbook. The truth, however, requires no orchestra and no family album: Keir Starmer is not on the side of working people.
