Former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami criticized the Islamic Republic’s involvement in the Palestinian issue, saying Iran had “no right to interfere” and that it was for the Palestinian people themselves to determine their course. Khatami said Israel was established “through occupation and force,” adding that “occupation is not a source of legitimacy.” He said Iran could morally support people seeking freedom but rejected putting itself in their place to confront “a powerful force” when they could ultimately suffer greatly and choose a different path.

Across Iran, a new kind of video is circulating. People film themselves holding up what they have just bought, name the price, and then dance. Four eggs and one sausage, 500,000 tomans. A soda and a packet of crisps, 350,000. Six eggs and a tin of tuna. Three small bags of shopping for 7.5 million tomans, close to half a month at the minimum wage. Each says why they are smiling. "I am very happy," one man says, "because if I am not, they will execute me." Others say they would otherwise be called rioters, traitors, mercenaries or Mossad agents. Iranian authorities routinely accuse those who speak about the country's economic conditions of "painting things black," and have arrested and prosecuted people on such charges.

The custodian of the Imam Reza shrine, Ahmad Marvi, said Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was in Mashhad both before and after the burial of his father. “We had the opportunity to meet him twice,” Marvi said, adding that they also prayed with Khamenei. Iran offered $500 billion worth of projects to US companies during Geneva negotiations before the 2025 war, hoping President Donald Trump’s business instincts and the prospect of profit would persuade him to ease pressure on Tehran, a senior Iranian lawmaker said. Hassan Qashqavi, the spokesman for parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said the proposed projects spanned oil and gas, mining, transportation and other sectors. “They kept telling us Trump is a businessman. If he smells economic opportunity and profit, he’ll back off,” Qashqavi said.

Iran executed Ali-Sina Mostafavi, a 38-year-old professional mountaineer and musician in the southeastern city of Kerman on Wednesday after convicting him of "waging war against God." The judiciary accused him of carrying out armed attacks in support of Iran's exiled Prince Reza Pahlavi, the United States and Israel. Kerman's chief justice also alleged that Mostafavi had planned to seize the city's airport to facilitate Prince Pahlavi's return to Iran. Hours before the execution, Pahlavi's office said Mostafavi had been sentenced to death based on confessions extracted under torture.

Basij and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were present at and near schools in Tehran on Monday, videos sent to Iran International showed. In one video, security forces were filmed handing guns to children who had left school. "They have brought in children under the age of 10 who have just finished school and are teaching them how to assemble and disassemble a weapon," an onlooker filming the scene said. "They've put a Kalashnikov in front of the child... they're preparing their minds for killing from an early age. Look how excited the child is — he's not even eight years old."

Tehran emergency chief Mohammad Esmail Tavakoli said colleagues at the supreme leader’s compound told him Mojtaba Khamenei suffered injuries to his lip, forehead and leg in the February 28 attack. Tavakoli said he found no confirmation of reports that Khamenei had been seriously wounded.

No alternative has emerged who can galvanize the Iranian people's imagination like exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, a senior advisor at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies told Iran International's Samira Gharaei. Goldberg said the opposition needed "one voice" under a "wide tent" — a figure who could tell Iranians, whether Kurdish, Azeri, Persian or Baluch, that there would be "a seat for everybody" in a future Iran, possibly through a federalist system empowering minorities. If Pahlavi could unite the opposition that way, Goldberg said, "we should get behind him."

Iranians are voicing anger at skyrocketing food prices as the rial trades at a record low of 2.62 million to the US dollar. One resident said a zero-sugar soda and a yogurt came to 5.3 million rials (about $2), sarcastically calling the Islamic Republic "the number-one superpower in the world." Another paid 1.1 million rials (around $0.45) for a malt drink and a cocktail sausage, saying: "I don't know whether to laugh or cry." A third filmed a cake that had risen from 300,000 rials to 400,000 rials (about 16 cents) in a week. Iran's minimum monthly wage is worth only about $63 at the open-market rate, leaving everyday purchases consuming a growing share of people's income.

Iranian state television reported that some older fuel pumps cannot display the new gasoline price of 10,000 tomans per liter because their screens do not support five-digit figures. As a temporary fix, stations are displaying 1,000 and adding a zero sticker for the missing digit. On Sunday, government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said the higher rate for gasoline purchased with fuel-station cards would rise to 100,000 rials, or 10,000 tomans, per liter.
