The Senate did not reverse electronic transmission of results as provided in the 2022 Electoral Act. That provision was jointly agreed upon by the Senate and House committees. INEC and civil society groups were fully involved in the process. All retreats concluded that electronic transmission was the best option for Nigeria. Any claim of deviation is a misunderstanding of what was collectively passed.

My one-year anniversary as the sole Senator representing the great people of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Over the past year, I have been privileged to sponsor and contribute to some Bills and Motions aimed at improving the lives of my constituents. Some of these legislative efforts include: Motions 1. Motion on the elimination of Gender-Based Violence. 2. Motion on Karu Market Fire: A Motion on the Karu Fire Outbreak and the Need for Safer Public Places 3. Motion on Kidnapped Children in Gwagwalada 4. Motion on Security in the FCT: Urgent Need to Consider and Intervene in the Serious Menace of Insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory, with a View to Proffer a Terminal Solution. 5. Motion to stem the tide of illegal Motor-Parks and Pick-Up Points within Abuja Metropolis. Bills 1. Bill for the Establishment of Federal Capital Territory Nursing and Midwifery school (Second Reading) 2. Gender Equality Bill (Pending): For an Act to Incorporate and Enforce Certain Provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. 3. Fire Service Act Amendment Bill (Pending): An Act to Amend the Fire Service Act CAP 29 LFN, 2004 4. FCT Maternal and Child Care Bill (Pending) I am proud to have led the debate on these important issues and will continue to work tirelessly to serve the people of the FCT, Abuja. Constituency Projects 1. Construction of a 0.6 KM Asphaltic Road on Ishan Road, Karu, AMAC, FCT. 2. Installation of Solar Streetlights by the Refugee Commission in various locations: - 23 streetlights in 5 communities in Mpape (Ajegunle, GRA, Sangaruwa, Anajie, Gbagi Village, and Mashapa Road) - 22 streetlights in Karimajiji - 21 streetlights in Kwali - 21 streetlights in Jikwoyi 3. Transformer at Kado kuchi/Jabi 4. Provision of household equipment for less privileged and rural women in FCT (ongoing). 5. Construction of a 50-bed hospital in Dobi, Gwagwalada (ongoing). 6. Construction of roads and drainages at Kpaduma 1 & 3 in the AMAC Area Council of the FCT Senatorial District. 7. Construction of perimeter fencing, external works, and furnishing of health care centers in three Area Councils of the FCT Senatorial District. 8. Construction of perimeter fencing and a gatehouse for retired civil servant quarters in the FCT Senatorial District. 9. Rehabilitation of boreholes in the six Area Councils of the FCT: AMAC, Bwari, Kwali, Kuje, Gwagwalada, and Abaji. 10. Supply and provision of fertilizer for the farming season in the FCT Senatorial District. (To be supplied) 11. Provision and installation of transformers (5 Nos 300/33KVA and 5 Nos 300/11KVA) in selected communities in the FCT Senatorial District. 12. Completion of Angwan Dodo Roads in Gwagwalada LGA of the FCT Senatorial District. 13. Construction of roads and drainages at Pai in Kwali, AMAC Area Council of the FCT Senatorial District. 14. Construction and asphalting of a 1.5 KM road in Jikwoyi Phase 1, AMAC Area Council of the FCT Senatorial District. 15. Practical training program on Agri-preneurship for youth in the FCT Senatorial District at Songhari Integrated Farming System. 16. Construction of comprehensive boreholes across AMAC/BWARI, FCT, Abuja. 17. Study and design of the Consultant Office Block at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, FCT Senatorial District. 18. Study and design of the road from the academic core to Giri Staff Housing Quarters at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, FCT Senatorial District. 19. I have read most of the comments to my earlier tweet today and for the record let me categorically state that the protest in Federal Capital Territory remained peaceful until the police launched an attack, firing teargas and shots at the protesters. To the best of my knowledge, there were no reports of any shops being looted or vandalized in Abuja. So, I ask you my people, what options do we have going forward as a people? How can we peacefully demand justice and reform? -Iretikingibe

At the recent Round Table Meeting of the Senate Committee on Water Resources, I raised the issue of intervention projects supposedly completed within my constituency but kept hidden from my oversight since last year, despite my repeated requests for information. As the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, I firmly believe public officers must be held accountable for their actions. This principle has driven me to demand comprehensive details about the intervention projects reported as completed in the FCT. These projects were intended to benefit the people of the FCT; yet, while they appear completed on paper, there is no visible evidence of them. This raises critical questions: Who were the contractors? Who approved and supervised these projects? These are answers I am committed to finding. While minor delays or concealed information on one or two projects might be conceivable, it is highly troubling when 14 projects—covering essential areas like road construction, perimeter fencing, health care centers, and fertilizer distribution—are claimed to be completed without transparency. This lack of accountability from the Director General of the Niger Basin Development Authority demands serious scrutiny. We must do better. Nigeria deserves a system rooted in transparency and accountability, where leaders are held responsible for their actions and decisions to build a nation for all. I have always been a firm advocate for women's inclusion in governance and decision-making. My commitment to gender equality is unwavering because I believe that a society thrives when women are actively involved in shaping policies and leading initiatives. It is imperative that we take legislative action to secure women's participation in politics. One of the key steps toward this goal is mandating that party delegate selections include women, this is not just about fairness; it is about ensuring that the voices of half our population are heard in leadership spaces. Beyond policy discussions, I have consistently highlighted the challenges women face within governmental structures. Many women in leadership positions hesitate to speak up, often out of fear or societal pressure. This must change. We need structural reforms, including the creation of special seats for women and the enforcement of laws that guarantee at least 35% representation in governance. We must break down entrenched gender stereotypes and cultural barriers that have kept women on the sidelines for too long. At the 69th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), global leaders—including UN Secretary-General António Guterres—reaffirmed the need for more women in leadership. The UN has made significant strides in achieving gender parity among senior leadership by expanding the search for qualified women, proving that when given the opportunity, women lead with excellence and impact. My participation in the Nigeria Women’s Day event at CSW69 is yet another step in my relentless advocacy for gender equality. The fight for inclusion is not just about women—it is about building a more just and prosperous society for all. I will continue to push for systemic change, and I encourage every Nigerian woman to take up space, raise her voice, and claim her rightful place in governance. To be honest, I have never been one to seek publicity for my empowerment efforts. However, I have come to realize that acknowledging the impact we make can inspire others and create a ripple effect. Over the past year, we have quietly made a difference in numerous communities, and the feedback has been overwhelming. People appreciate the support and recognition, so I have decided to share our stories more widely. As the sole senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its people, my goal is to ensure that the FCT receives its fair share of resources and opportunities. Unfortunately, the FCT has often been overlooked in the allocation of quotas for employment, education, and empowerment programs, despite receiving disproportionate funding. I am committed to advocating for policies that guarantee the FCT's inclusion and fair treatment, and ensure that its residents receive equal access to opportunities and benefits. My mission is to keep attracting as much support for our people and empowering individuals, communities, and the FCT as a whole in achieving livehood so they can thrive and become self-sufficient. I also wish to reaffirm our dedication to empowering them for a sustainable future. We stand at a critical juncture in human history, where the decisions we make today will shape the future of our planet. Climate change, inequality, and social injustice threaten our very existence. Yet, I stand before you with hope, inspired by the passion, creativity, and determination of our young people. Youth empowerment is not only a moral imperative but also an economic and social necessity. Investing in our youth means investing in our future. We must provide them with access to quality education, skills training, and opportunities for participation in decision-making processes.
