Esther Rolle literally fought for a Black father representation in Good Times. She risked everything, and when they killed John Amos off, she literally left the show—we can’t keep spitting in their faces like this.

Yes, I wrote a book series about a Black boy going to a magical HBCU to learn his ancestral magic. He’s a Black boy that often gets held to higher standard. But he’s vulnerable, strong, flawed, super powerful. #BloodattheRoot

This should’ve gotten Cynthia her Best Actress Oscar. But the Academy is afraid to nominate another Black woman the award.

Shoutout to y’all for supporting my last post. Here’s a scene of Hattie McDaniel hours before her historic win talking with a Black maid about the importance of seeing yourself. Like I said I’ve been fighting to get my play on more stages. Especially in Atlanta, Alabama, NYC and LA. Tag your local theaters. I’m fighting to get it there!

When I think of #Sinners, I think of this monologue from Ma Rainey. “The world would be nothing without the blues.” The blues came from the motherland, and our ancestors took it and remixed it, and now it’s in everything we do.

To the little Black boy from Helena, Alabama who used to write stories while Disney Channel playing in the background to drown out his parents fighting… To the 17 year old LaDarrion who promised himself while reading Percy Jackson to write a story with a kid like… To the 27 year old LaDarrion who was sleeping in his car and driving a Lyft and Uber and folks telling him “ a story about about a Black boy with magic is not really marketable”… All I got to say is… you did it, kid.

Again, instead of telling Black creatives to “call Tyler Perry”, give their creative endeavors a view, a repost, a comment and like. Donate to their campaigns. Hollywood is tough right now and we need all the support than ever. I decided to reload my first ever short film based off a stageplay I wrote back in high school. We made this on a SHOE STRING BUDGET, but we got through. It’s about two strangers finding themselves trapped in an abandoned hospital room during Hurricane Katrina where the ghosts of their past come to haunt them. Gothika x The Sixth Sense You can watch it now on YouTube for free. Please run up the views, comments, share.

#Sinnersmovie definitely got me inspired. I’m working with a wonderful team to bring my magical HBCU TV series to life. We’re working on the last bit of logistics before we take it to the networks and studios. Here’s Blood at the Root which is now a New York Times Bestseller but it was inspired by this little short film that could. Ryan Coogler definitely inspired me all the way through. Watch here:
