The psychology of American exceptionalism For decades, Americans were given the benefit of the doubt. Misled. Conditioned. Psyopped. Whatever excuse made it easier. That grace was extended regardless of the violence carried out in their name, and funded by their money. People now act like that phase is over because some Americans are critical and outspoken. That group is small. And we keep using them to excuse everyone else. A lot of so-called political commentators are just influencers. Their job isn’t to apply principles consistently, it’s to influence behavior without forcing accountability. So morality becomes selective. Condemnation is allowed as long as responsibility stays external. As long as Americans can remain positioned as not part of the problem. That’s why the framework never actually changes. This isn’t about “left vs. right.” That’s a distraction. This is about Americans refusing to locate themselves inside the systems they keep reacting to from the outside.
