🎬 Backrooms (2026) At just 20 years old, Kane Parsons, the visionary behind the viral YouTube series The Backrooms, made his feature directorial debut with A24’s Backrooms, becoming the studio’s youngest-ever feature film director. Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, and Mark Duplass, the film is produced by horror heavyweights James Wan, Shawn Levy, and Osgood Perkins. Its impressive creative team quickly sparked online speculation that Parsons couldn’t have directed such an ambitious project on his own. Those rumors were swiftly dismissed by Mark Duplass, who publicly stated that Parsons was “100% in control” throughout production, emphasizing that the young filmmaker never needed anyone to take over behind the camera. Parsons also responded with his trademark humor, joking that 96% of North American and European films are secretly directed by the same mysterious figure known as “The Older Gentleman.” Receiving strong early praise, including an 8/10 from IGN, Backrooms marks another milestone in the growing wave of YouTube creators successfully transitioning into feature filmmaking. More than just a horror film, it’s a testament to how talent, creativity, and vision can transcend age. Kane Parsons isn’t just one of the youngest directors in Hollywood, he’s proving that the next generation of filmmakers has already arrived.
