In South Korea, there is a recent promotional event for the classic snack Kancho, where each piece comes with a randomly printed name. A total of 504 names are being used, including 500 of the most popular baby names (given names). One of the names is “Jieun”, which is IU’s real name (her given name). And IU failed to find a Kancho with “Jieun” on it.

Q. Is there a sentence from a fan message that has stayed with you? IU: It wasn’t very recent, but toward the end of last year, I hosted a pop-up event. There was a section where visitors could leave messages, and (there was a message) that seemed to be from an international fan. I had released a song called “Bye, Summer” last year, and they kind of quoted it and wrote a message about greetings: You are my greatest hello and hardest bye 너는 나의 가장 훌륭했던 첫 인사였고 가장 힘들었던 끝인사였다 The sentence they wrote was so beautiful that I took it home and placed it in my personal space.
