Russia hit Kyiv’s Southern Bridge twice today. A drone damaged a support, the roadway, a barrier and the concrete shield over the metro. Trains and buses across the bridge were stopped. It is one of the few crossings over the Dnipro, and one of the busiest: the green metro line and a main road between the city center and the left bank. Hundreds of thousands of people use it to get to work.

Social media is outraged that Steve Witkoff called Putin a “humanitarian.” But real diplomacy isn’t an X thread. We’re used to diplomacy of threats and humiliation. If Witkoff had followed that populist style, the road to Moscow would be closed—no American released today, no channel for ending the war. Saying something difficult to an adversary is harder than posting bold metaphors online. Witkoff remains a working link that can actually help stop the fighting. Online condemnations free no one.

Putin is destroying Kyiv. 🤬 Russia fired ~30 missiles at the Ukrainian capital overnight — casualties and destruction reported. Ukraine hit back with missiles on Moscow. In this endless war, only Putin and Zelenskyy win. Ordinary people just count the dead and wounded.

Russian drones struck the Kyiv–Odesa highway not far from Kyiv. This is the road to my home that I used to drive several times a day. Cars caught fire; at least three civilians were killed and several injured while driving. Before that, drone debris near a gas station in Kyiv hit a bus driver directly in the heart, killing him and injuring six others. Kyiv residents and the surrounding region have now lived for the second month in a row under near-frontline conditions, with Russian drones and missiles striking day and night.

How did Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries help Ukraine? We’re told they will slash Russia’s military budget and force Moscow to stop the war. However, diesel and gasoline exports have never been the main pillar of Russia's budget. In 2024 Russia earned about $46 billion from refined petroleum. In 2025 the figure was lower, roughly $40 billion. Crude oil exports were far larger: around $124 billion in 2024 and about $101 billion in 2025. Relative to national defence budgets of roughly $150 billion in 2024 and $190 billion in 2025, refined products were 40% of the defence budget; crude oil was on the order of 80% or more of it in 2024 and still the dominant share in 2025. Crude revenues did fall in 2025, mainly because of lower global oil prices, U.S. sanctions, and a stronger ruble, not because of the refinery strikes. The strikes hit product output and exports more directly; crude exports sometimes even rose as Russia redirected volumes. Though in the last months, Russsia banned diesel exports due to Ukrainian strikes. Ukraine’s sustained campaign against refineries began in earnest in early 2024, with escalation from mid-2025. We saw even bigger escalation of shelling in June 2026. After more than two years of strikes, hundreds of thousands of lives lost and large parts of Ukrainian infrastructure destroyed, Russia’s defence spending has not been cut by anything like the scale of those product revenues. Russia continues the war while Ukraine absorbs the costs. The main visible outputs remain videos and photos for a certain Western “patriotism” that does little to help Ukraine, while companies close to the Ukraine's leadership profit. This is not a strategy of Ukrainian victory or Russian defeat. It is stubborn maximalism and cynical earning on blood.

In Odesa a driver stabbed a recruitment officer in the neck and tried to run him over. In Kyiv another man opened fire inside a draft office, wounding six people. Both had just been grabbed for forced conscription. Ordinary Ukrainians are being pulled off the streets into a war with no end and no peace talks. When the state leaves men no choice but to die, some will reach for a knife or a gun. Violence is no longer an exception. It is what this policy produces.

This is just horror. This is the center of Kyiv, in broad daylight. A Russian drone hit an office center. Four people were killed on the spot. The Russian attack on Kyiv has now gone on for four days without a break. This morning a child was killed. How much more of this before anyone talks about ending the war for real. The war has to end faster.

Yesterday the EU approved another €6.1 billion in defense aid for Ukraine. Years before the presidency, Volodymyr Zelensky — then a comedian, speaking from Moscow — mocked similar EU money. He said he regretted missing the “banquet” in Kyiv where that cash was divided, because he was stuck in Moscow. He insisted such aid fed corruption and did little for Ukraine. Years later, already President Zelensky got his seat at the table. The current strategy of open-ended war support does not help Ukraine stand and recover. It funds a slow grind in which the country degrades while others enrich themselves on the billions. That’s the contradiction.

Russia struck Kyiv’s Northern Bridge this morning, the second major Dnipro crossing hit in days. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the attack damaged the road surface and trolleybus wires. Traffic from the left bank to the right bank was blocked. No casualties were reported. Unlike the Southern Bridge, the Northern Bridge is road-only — eight lanes carrying heavy truck and military traffic that links the right bank with Left-Bank Kyiv and the northern Chernihiv and Sumy routes (M-01 and H-07). It is a key logistics artery for forces holding the northern border. Russia’s MoD said it targeted the bridge because it was used to move military cargo. The Southern Bridge was hit repeatedly by drones on Oct. 1–2. Kyiv officials say the campaign is cutting the capital in two.

Today, Zelensky is a threat to a national sovereignty of Ukraine, he is a threat to the very Ukraine’s existance. He will lose the war and lose the peace. If the war continues and he stays the president, Ukraine won’t have 35 years of independence.

Corruption scandals in Ukraine do not stop. In Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odesa, investigators just busted a cash-conversion scheme. Companies paid fake firms for goods and services that never existed, cut their taxes, and got the money back in cash. About $11 million a month. Some $526 million since 2023. Roughly $67 million in unpaid taxes. Іs there a bottom to this corruption — or only a roof?

Ukraine is sinking into darkness again. After the latest Russian strikes, emergency blackouts are back, and in some regions the lights are already off for 8–9 hours a day. Industry is being cut too. Winter will not bring relief: 16–20 hours without power is what people are being told to expect, because Russian missiles are aimed at plants and substations. Have these winters made Ukrainians so “resilient” that this now counts as normal? The state has stepped back. Families and small businesses are left to find generators, water, a way to cook, and a way not to freeze in their own homes. Endurance is not the same as a policy.

Kyiv endured a massive Russian ballistic missile and drone attack overnight. Residential buildings were hit, killing 4 people and wounding 28 (including a child). Three city TPPs were struck. 600,000 people are without electricity. Russian drones and missiles also targeted energy facilities in the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions, plus railway infrastructure across five regions. Ukrainian officials say the US again withheld intelligence on the first wave of launches (data was shared for the second strike). The Armed Forces of Ukraine also report restrictions on military-grade high-speed Starlink.

Russia has been attacking the western regions of Ukraine around the clock for a second day. Almost the entire west is under fire, except Zakarpattia. What used to be the rear is now being hit by hundreds of Russian jet-powered Shahed drones: warehouses, factories, energy sites, railway stations, gas stations. In the middle of the day a Russian Shahed drone struck the center of Zviahel in Zhytomyr region. Two people were killed. In Lutsk a Russian drone hit a passenger train standing at the station. Near the Yahodyn checkpoint on the Polish border a gas station and trucks caught fire. People who moved here from more dangerous regions, believing they would be safe, are now in despair. There is no rear left in Ukraine.

I don’t know if Zelenskyy watches the news, but the mood in France, Italy and Albania is not good. Large protests are underway, sometimes turning into clashes with police. In southern Italy roads are set to be blocked for the next two days. People are protesting bad education, poverty, soaring fuel prices and actual shortages of diesel and gasoline in some regions. Against this backdrop, six months before elections in France and Italy, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is asking for another €70 billion to fund an endless war that Ukraine is losing. The previous €90 billion were already extracted with huge difficulty. Hungary and Slovakia have already said they will not take part in this new financing. This is not about whether I support Zelenskyy. The economy in Ukraine is nearly stopped — by Russian strikes and by the incompetence of a wartime government. The Constitution is on pause, as one of Zelenskyy’s own friends has said. The war is taking more lives and more land, and the only answer we hear is “give Ukraine more money”. Money that Europeans no longer want to give and can no longer afford to give. Every third euro in Ukraine is now Western borrowing. To save the country we need a deal and a chance to rebuild. I do not believe Ukraine can remain an equal partner while it is this dependent on the West, or that this strategy has any long-term future. It breaks my heart that this war is destroying so much in Ukraine and causing such degradation. It also breaks my heart that European countries, including France, Italy and Albania, are going through such hard times. That is why I say again: let’s end the only war in Europe so that all of us can start building a future.

The idea of NATO died in Ukraine. The Alliance was created to protect people, yet Ukrainians are now dying merely for the idea of a hypothetical accession sometime years from now. Maybe—if we do everything right and don’t die out before then. When people ask me what Ukraine can do to end the war, one answer is: stop lying to its own people, and stop setting unattainable maximalist goals in this war. Second: stop escalating the rhetoric. It’s easy to talk on camera about invincibility when you have a hundred bodyguards, a bunker against a nuclear strike, and can fly abroad whenever it’s useful or whenever you feel like it. This covers NATO, the 1991 borders, and how we will bomb Russia. And then—whoosh—into the bunker. Meanwhile the people swallow all of this, pick up arms and legs from everywhere, and pray every day for this hell to end. There is no diplomacy of threats. And this rhetoric is the first sign that the Ukrainian leader does not need peace. Third: stop stealing, because it weakens the nation in both war and peace. Corruption is our defeat. Fourth: repeal the decree banning negotiations with Putin. It makes any talks with him illegal. Waiting for Putin’s death is a cute idea—for a children’s comic. Because the math shows there will be no one left to wait. There are already almost 20 million of us, out of 52. Invincibility is only a political slogan. In the end, we are all human. Our bodies break, and now our souls are breaking too—from this damned war and from the authorities’ inhuman treatment. Ukraine needs peace. And Ukraine can still start doing something to achieve it.
