Despite heavy rainfall, Chief Tinubu-Ojo defied the weather to personally inspect the market, engaging directly with traders to understand their challenges and explore avenues for support. Her visit was met with excitement and heartfelt appreciation from market leaders and traders, who commended her for her unwavering commitment to their welfare. “We are deeply grateful to the Iyaloja-General for coming to see us, even in the rain,” said one of the market leaders. “Her presence today shows true leadership and compassion.” During her tour, Chief Tinubu-Ojo listened attentively to the concerns of traders and pledged to intervene where necessary to provide relief and enhance market operations. Her visit underscores her dedication to improving the lives of traders across Lagos State and Nigeria at large. Lagos Island, Wednesday, September 17, 2025 Iyaloja-General Conducts On-Site Assessment of Mandillas Inferno Aftermath The Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Chief Dr. Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, visited Mandillas Market in Lagos Island to assess the devastating impact of a recent inferno that had razed several market plazas, crippling commercial activities in the area. During her visit, Chief Folasade Tinubu-Ojo engaged with market leaders overseeing the affected sections to investigate the possible cause of the fire. While no definitive source was identified, many traders suspect the blaze originated from a power generator surge. The market leaders appealed to the Iyaloja-General to help enforce stricter regulations against the installation of generator sets on upper floors of high-rise buildings. They emphasized that fires starting from elevated levels are harder to contain and tend to spread rapidly to adjacent structures. In her remarks, Chief Folasade Tinubu-Ojo expressed heartfelt sympathy to the traders who suffered losses. She condemned the persistent practice of mounting heavy-duty and portable generators above ground level, describing it as reckless and dangerous. She reiterated her longstanding advocacy for centralized power control centers in markets, urging those unable to build such facilities to at least organize their generators responsibly on the ground floor. She stressed that under no circumstances should generators be installed on any floor above ground level. The Iyaloja-General pledged to escalate the traders’ concerns to His Excellency, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu, and affirmed her commitment to collaborating with relevant government agencies to curb the unsafe proliferation of generators on elevated floors. She also extended her gratitude to the Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and other emergency response teams for their swift and effective intervention, which helped prevent further losses. The historical moment when the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Chief Dr Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo officially unveiled the LPG vessel named after her beloved her grandmother; Lt. Dr. Abibatu Asabi Mogaji in South Korea. The new LPG vessel was named "MT Iyaloja (Lagos)" in honor of the late Dr. Abibatu Mogaji, who was the mother of His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. Owned by WAGL Energy Limited, a joint venture between NNPC Ltd. and the Sahara Group, this dual-fuel, fully refrigerated LPG carrier joins a fleet that now has a total capacity of 162,000 CBM. The other vessels in the fleet include MT Africa Gas, MT Sahara Gas, MT BaruMK, and MT Sapet. This naming ceremony serves as a tribute to Dr. Abibatu Mogaji’s enduring legacy of philanthropy and her family's contributions to Nigeria.
