You do not casually slap “Beer Hall Putsch” on a campaign event and expect people to shrug. Ohio governor candidate Casey Putsch used that title for a rally. The phrase is not random. The Beer Hall Putsch, also known as the Munich Putsch, was Adolf Hitler’s failed 1923 coup attempt in Germany. That is why the title drew immediate scrutiny. A gubernatorial campaign used a phrase tied directly to one of the darkest political references in modern history and then left voters with an obvious question: was that really supposed to be accidental?
