Mama: "doh worry bout dem & dey foolishness, dey won't stop we carnival." A couple years off 90 but with more energy than me; I struggled to stop her joining the crowds. #NottingHillCarnival2023 is a beautiful celebration of multicultural Britain, inspired by the Windrush Gen.

Windrush in Reverse My parents arrived in Britain in the 1950s & left in 1975. But for as long as I can recall before we left, my mum was planning her departure. We used to shop in a store called Arding and Hobbs in Battersea which had a permanent sale in the basement. We were always down there buying curtains, sheets, pots and all sorts for the new house in Grenada. It was as if my parents couldn't settle in the UK - my dad said it made no sense being a second class citizen in Britain and my mother spoke of the racism in the NHS, and the weather. Until seeing this interesting clip, I thought my family (an aunt and uncle also left with their families) were unusual. I wonder how many left? I wonder too about those who wanted to leave but couldn't. I would love to hear stories either here or via DM.
