On this day in 1963, an event took place, which never happened in history & may never happen in future, thousands of people gathered in Jodhpur to bid adieu to Major Shaitan Singh, PVC. 1 SIKH organised the cremation ceremony & JAKRIF band played the last post in the ceremony.

A rare video of Lt Col Megh Singh, VrC, the founding father of Meghdoot Force and the Indian Special Forces. As a Major he was denied promotion, so he chose to leave the Army but came the 1965 War and he volunteered to raise a special force 'Meghdoot' and raided deep inside Pakistan. He was shot in his thigh during the action and was admitted to a military hospital, where Lt Gen Kashmir Singh Katoch, promoted him to the rank of Lt Col and presented him with the well deserved Vir Chakra. Lt Col Megh Singh also raised the Commando unit of the BSF and retired as a DIG. He passed away in 2010.

A video of ashes of Subedar Joginder Singh, PVC 1 SIKH being handed over to his family. Subedar Joginder Singh, PVC, known for his exceptional bravery during the 1962 War. Born on September 26, 1921, in the Moga district of Punjab, Singh joined the Sikh Regiment. On 23 October during the battle at Bum La in NEFA, where he displayed extraordinary heroism while defending his post against overwhelming Chinese forces. Despite being heavily outnumbered, he fought valiantly, inspiring his comrades. He was ultimately injured but continued to lead his men until he was critically wounded. He was taken as a POW and later died in captivity. His ashes were handed over to India in 1963. For his exceptional bravery and leadership, Joginder Singh was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra (PVC), India's highest military honor. His legacy lives on as a symbol of courage and sacrifice, and he is remembered as one of the nation's heroes.

19 September 1965, when a Pakistan Air Force aircraft shot down an Indian civil aircraft carrying Gujarat's Chief Minister Balwant Rai Mehta. The Indian aircraft was flown by a former IAF Sqn Ldr Jahangir Engineer and was shot down by a PAF pilot named Qais Hussain, who in 2011 apologised to the daughter of Sqn Ldr Jahangir Engineer.

In Nyoma, Ladakh, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is set to build India's highest fighter airfield. I have the good fortune to document, a nonagenarian Sapper Lt Gen Ashok Joshi who served as the 2-IC of 20 Field Company in Fukche in 1961. He was given special orders to survey Nyoma for the fighter airfield, which he accomplished. Now, 63 years later, a fighter airfield is being established!

The first landing at Chushul, 29 August 1952. PM Nehru was among the first people to land at Chushul. Chushul was the highest airfield in the world at the time. On 22 June 1952, 19 Infantry Division began work on the 3500-yard long airstrip, which was selected by Brig Bagh Singh.
