American actress Myha’la Herrold, best known for her breakout role as Harper Stern in the HBO/BBC finance drama Industry, touched down in Jamaica for the first time ever, and the moment was overwhelming. In a TikTok video posted today, the rising star thanked Delta Airlines after “Jamaica Love” by BUSY SIGNAL started playing over the aircraft speakers as the plane descended. Herrold, whose father is Jamaican, said she “barely touched the ground and I’m already a mess”, sharing that returning to the land of her heritage brought her to tears. Despite heavy rains and winds associated with Category 4 Hurricane Beryl, and an island-wide curfew imposed by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, residents on East Queen Street in downtown Kingston were seen dancing and gyrating on each other in the streets, turning the storm into an impromptu party. The hurricane's eye is visible south of St. Elizabeth. Holness said it’s unfortunate that unsuspecting people are caught in real estate fraud as they fail to verify the ownership of land or check for a subdivision application.

Finance Minister Fayval Williams says Jamaica is seeing a “deluge” of duty-free packages, as some shoppers split orders or undervalue items to remain under the US$100 threshold. Responding to concerns raised by the Opposition spokesman on finance, Julian Robinson, who questioned whether the increase in the de minimis threshold was a policy contradiction, Williams said her reference to local retailers during her opening budget presentation was to highlight the unintended impact of the policy. Dr Daniel Thomas, president of the Christian youth organisation, Love March Movement, is condemning what he describes as ongoing physical attacks and threats against himself and members of his team.
