He had head coaching experience at Flowing Wells, CDO, Pima College, Cienega and Mica Mountain after beginning as an assistant at Rincon/UHS. He announced his retirement after winning his first state championship in December, when Mica Mountain completed a 14-0 season with a 4A title.

He’s come a long way and his baseball journey is continuing. Angel Armenta Jr. was on the 2019 Sunnyside Little League team that came a game away from reaching Williamsport, Pa. He is concluding his Walden Grove career as a Kino Baseball League All-Star and is now headed to Williston (N.D.) State College to further his baseball and academic career. He wants to get into sports medicine.

Danny Vega was a three-time state champ at Sunnyside who coached and nurtured his two sons Danny Jr. and Sergio. The fruits of his labor, including the many hours training his boys at his Tucson Cyclones Wrestling & Fitness Club, came to bear with Danny Jr. reaching the national tournament at South Dakota State and Sergio claiming the 141-pound national title title as a true freshman at Oklahoma State this season.

Proud parents of North Carolina-bound Taliyah Henderson - Anthony and Danica were college athletes at Idaho State when they met. Danica, a Canadian from close to Vancouver, played basketball and Anthony, a Salpointe grad, was a linebacker who played his senior year for the Lancers when Dennis Bene began his coaching career in 2001. They have three more children coming up the competitive ranks as well.
