The biggest mechanical change on the new Škoda India Kushaq - the 8 speed AQ300 torque converter automatic gearbox. It's made in China, 10% cheaper than the Japanese AQ200 6 speed unit it replaces. Intention? To make the Kushaq and other affordable Volkswagen cars more fuel efficient. How? By keeping the engine in the peak torque and efficiency band. More gear ratios mean better control over this! What other cars will get this gearbox? Kylaq (already has), Taigun Facelift, Virtus Facelift and the new sub-4 meter VW SUV (Tera?). Eventually, I see the 8 speed automatic gearbox filtering down to every other car that currently uses the 6 speed AISIN automatic. This is one the many measures automakers will take to make cars more fuel efficient, and meet the upcoming CAFE3 norms. Once upon a time, a 6 speed automatic was a big thing. How times change! CarToq

The Renault Duster media drive is finally on. We're driving a white coloured car, with a 1.3 liter turbo petrol engine (163 PS-280 Nm), paired with a 6 speed dual clutch wet clutch automatic gearbox. This is the top end iconic trim. Opinions embargoed until the 21st. CarToq Renault India
