The amount of rainfall recorded today is among the highest experienced in several years. Preliminary data indicates that approximately 140 millimetres of rain fell on Accra. By comparison, the highest single-day rainfall recorded last year was about 56 millimetres. That aspect of the problem is beyond our control because it is driven by changing climatic conditions. There is the issue of human behaviour. Whenever government begins removing structures built in waterways, some people accuse us of being inhumane. Yet when disasters such as today's flooding occur, the consequences affect everyone. The irresponsible actions of a few individuals end up putting entire communities at risk.

I am deeply saddened by the destruction at Adum market in Kumasi after Friday's fire. My heart goes out to the affected traders. I visited the market and commended the Fire Service for their efforts, but access remains a major challenge. We must prioritise better planning in our markets. This tragedy underscores the urgent need for improved fire safety. I've directed the Chief of Staff to work with the Ashanti Regional Minister and NADMO to assess losses and provide immediate relief. A major concern is the use of gas cylinders and cooking in markets. These practices are extremely dangerous. Our traders and shop owners must be educated and committed to fire safety to prevent future tragedies.

I dedicate this award to the team that helped me, day and night, think through the challenges that we had as a country. This African Advancement Award for Exemplary Leadership inspires me because not everyone gets the chance to be president twice. Incidentally, I am standing for president again, and it's God (who) who gives you that opportunity to reflect on things that you did so well and things that you did not do so well, and to get an opportunity to come and make those things better.

I agree with Nana Chiraahene, Barima Mintah Afari II that the sanctity of the December election must not be sacrificed—the Electoral Commission has the responsibility to guarantee that sanctity. Our repeated calls on Jean Mensah and the Commission to ensure fairness and free elections continue to be rebuffed, but as Nana Chiraahene stated, the Commission must be careful to avoid plunging this country into chaos due to its avoidable mistakes and actions. The call for a forensic audit of the voter register is not a demand of the NDC alone. It is a legitimate demand from all peace-loving Ghanaians who desire a free, fair, and peaceful election on December 7.
