Difficult scenes from my hometown, Deir el-Balah. I’m usually very conservative about sharing content like this, as it exposes people in their most vulnerable and painful moments. But this serves as a reminder of Israel’s brutality and criminality, of what this regime is capable of, and what it’s allowed to commit with impunity—fully backed by governments and institutions in the West through money, arms, and propaganda. I share this to show you what has been enabled, so that this evidence is never erased or buried. Justice will be ours, sooner or later, without a doubt.

In 2018, the Choir of the Edward Said Conservatory of Music in Gaza performed this song. The clip, with its moving words and performance, vividly encapsulates Gaza’s enduring pain and pride. One can only wonder how many of those who appear in this video are still with us today.

In this clip, you will see first responders attempting to retrieve the bodies of a little girl and her mother, both killed by an Israeli bomb in Gaza. The concrete ceiling crushed the girl’s head, leaving her body trapped beneath the rubble. She wasn’t far from her mother when the bomb struck—perhaps her mother had been sleeping next to her or was rushing to save her daughter when the bombing began. In the video, a first responder carefully wraps a rope around the little girl’s body. He is concerned that when they remove parts of the debris trapping her, her body might fall from the two-story building. Even though she is already gone, he wants to prevent any further harm to her fragile remains. He speaks about how difficult it has become not only to bury the dead but even to recover their bodies from under the rubble. This is Gaza’s daily reality—a glimpse into one of this century’s most profound atrocities, unfolding every day. It’s literal hell.

The world feels on edge, and evil has become unbearable. In the middle of all the ugliness and uncertainty, there can be hope. Hearing these girls sing about the beauty of the homeland and the promise of sunrise in Gaza is a reminder that hope can exist even in the worst moments.
