.Congressman Mike Haridopolos says more than 9,000 people joined his latest telephone town hall at 5pm on a Monday. His Facebook Live got 142 views. So here is a video of a paperclip on my table. 📎 We’re testing whether more people will watch this paperclip than their congressman. For context: his office spends roughly $2,000–$2,500 in taxpayer money just advertising each telephone town hall, not including the cost of actually running it. We held an in-person town hall in the building where his office is located for about $300. The paperclip required no taxpayer funding.

Spread over the House’s scheduled voting days this year, assuming eight hours a day, that’s about $252 an hour. House leadership canceled 28 scheduled days, added four back, and then left for a 53-day election recess. Working families don’t get to cancel their shifts and keep collecting the same paycheck. A woman running for public office should never have to wonder whether a political opponent is trying to intimidate her with a gun. This isn’t funny. And it isn’t normal political discourse. Women who step up to serve already face threats and intimidation at an unacceptable level. Making a candidate fear for her safety crosses a line every one of us Republican, Democrat, or otherwise should be willing to condemn. Disagree on policy. Debate the issues. Point out representative failures. Fight for votes. But threats and political intimidation have no place in our community. Period.

In Congress, I’ll fight to make ACA tax credits permanent, expand who qualifies for them, lower prescription drug costs by letting Medicare negotiate more prices, and take on insurance companies that keep raising premiums while families are already stretched thin. Health care shouldn’t be what breaks a family’s budget. #florida #congress #healthcare #aca
