We have said time and again that community dogs play an important role in our shared environment. For thousands of years, the relationship between humans and dogs has been built on mutual benefit. They help deter intruding animals, keep rodent populations in check, and often serve as an early warning system for potential threats in our neighbourhoods. Today, in Batala, Punjab, CCTV footage captured a powerful example of this relationship. A snake was attempting to enter a residential property when a group of community dogs spotted it and chased it away before it could enter the house. In doing so, these dogs willingly placed themselves at risk to protect the people living there. Incidents like these remind us that community dogs are valuable members of our urban and rural ecosystems. As a society, we must decide how we treat animals that have stood beside us for generations. Protecting community dogs through humane management, vaccination, sterilisation, and coexistence is not just an act of compassion; it is an investment in safer, healthier, and more balanced communities. Some questions that need answers: Q.1 Have the Municipal Corporation of Delhi officials read the ABC Rules, 2023? If they have, why are they openly flouting them? Q.2 Why are there beer bottles at the Dwarka Sector 29 ABC Centre? Are they part of the verbal orders issued by Dr. Sodhi? Q.3 What action will be taken against the gentleman in the video and Dr. Sodhi who is stating on record that he has been given orders from above to capture sterilized dogs? Q.4 Who has allowed Municipal Corporation of Delhi Officials to use catching rods to catch dogs, when the ABC Rules, 2023 clearly prescribe the use of Nets? What action will be taken against these catchers for openly flouting laws and to the officials issuing these verbal orders when the official orders have been revoked? Who has given these orders? A recording has emerged, reportedly of Dr. Uttam Yadav, Head of the ABC Programme at Indore Municipal Corporation and also the Director of indorezoo. He can be heard saying that if it weren't for Maneka Sanjay Gandhi , he would happily kill all the dogs and save on Diesel costs too. These are the people the Supreme Court of India wants us to trust community dogs with. Moreover, how can a person with such genocidal tendencies be allowed to run a zoo full of animals. There are several versions going around about what was actually going on at the Rohini Sector 27 ABC Centre. Hats off to the compassionate citizens who are staying up day and night to ensure the safety and release of the remaining dogs back to their respective territories. The washroom dog was rescued and is under treatment. Here's a first-hand account of what was witnessed inside the centre on the night of 22/08 until early morning 23/08. This isn't about only one ABC Centre. This is about the entire system across the country. The BJP Congress AAP and all other ruling parties in various states need to fix these butcher shops running in various municipal areas in their states, and the people need to wake up and visit these centres at least twice a week to ensure the safety and well-being of all dogs taken to these centres. This is how one ensures a compassionate, scientific, responsible, legal and morally upright resolution to a problem that seems to have split our country in two. A video update on Chiku, the 16 year old dog that was caught using a wire noose by unauthorised Municipal Corporation of Delhi authorities. She was lucky enough to have her caregiver close by, who rushed to get her out by standing in front of the van and refusing to budge. Several other dogs haven't been that lucky. Caregivers across Delhi are urged to similarly stop these illegal activities.
