We have been making steady progress with the Light-Up Lagos project. Across major roads and highways in the state, our teams have been installing streetlights and replacing old, unreliable fittings. You may have seen the work happening recently, both on the Mainland and the Island. Good lighting helps people move around more safely and improves security along our roads, whether you are heading home late from work or starting your day before dawn. This work is ongoing, and we will continue expanding it across the state, one street at a time.

The Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge is designed to ease movement across one of Lagos’ busiest corridors. For years, areas like Ojota, Maryland, Opebi and Allen have struggled with heavy traffic, largely because there was no direct connection between them. Stretching about 5.04 km, this project combines elevated bridge sections with connecting roads to create a more direct route for commuters. It also includes space for pedestrians and cyclists. This project was first conceived during HE President Bola Tinubu’s time as governor and was later revived and completed by our administration. In many ways, it reflects long-term planning finally coming to life. The real impact will be felt in daily commuting. Shorter travel times, less congestion on roads like Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, and more predictable journeys for both individuals and businesses.

Focusing on the first E in our THEMES+ agenda, which is Education and Technology, the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle sits on nearly 12 hectares and serves about 20,000 students across 36 schools, both primary and secondary. Before the upgrade, many of the buildings were in poor condition. Today, the entire complex has been rebuilt and expanded, marking its most significant transformation since it was established over 40 years ago. New classroom blocks have been added to reduce overcrowding. The facilities now include a football pitch, sports courts, a health centre, a fire station, and essential services like solar power and improved water systems. There is also a clear focus on inclusion. Dedicated buildings for students with disabilities have been introduced, along with lifts to make movement easier within the complex. A vocational centre is now in place, offering training in practical skills such as tailoring, plumbing, and masonry. With an ICT hub and a central laboratory, students are better positioned to engage with science and technology in a more hands-on way. Overall, the project creates a more supportive and functional learning environment for a densely populated community.

I am happy to share that we have completed the rehabilitation of the 9km stretch from Chevron to Admiralty on the Lekki–Ajah corridor, Lagos bound. The original timeline was 41 days but we finished ahead of schedule in 27 days because we understand what the daily traffic means for you. This is part of the wider 28km corridor from Lekki–Ajah Bridge to Admiralty, covering both carriageways. We are delivering the project in phases, and work on the Epe bound lane will begin soon. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. We will keep traffic management active, deploy the right personnel, and monitor progress closely as we continue the work.

Dear Lagosians, I am pleased to announce the full reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge after extended repair works have been completed to ensure its safety and efficiency for all residents. Your patience and resilience during this period have been paramount in maintaining our city's economic momentum. I extend my deepest gratitude to HE President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Honourable Minister of Works, David Umahi for their expedited focus and attention to detail on the Third Mainland Bridge project. Dear Lagosians, here is an important update on our metro line. Starting Monday, October 16, 2023, we're increasing train trips on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line from 12 to 54, with plans for 74 trips by the end of November. To make this transition, we'll need to shut down train services on Saturday, October 14 after the morning peak service and for the entire day on Sunday, October 15, for the switch to electricity. This momentary pause is to ensure that your safety is our top priority. I can assure you that suspending passenger operations is a global practice to effect major changes. This switch to electricity will help us introduce more trips and help us serve more passengers safely. I'm proud to say that we launched the first phase of the LRMT Blue Line on September 4, 2023 and we have moved over 80,000 passengers. Our goal is to surpass 150,000 daily passengers between Marina and Mile 2 in the coming months. The future of Lagos trains is bright, and I'm committed to improving your commuting experience. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to enhance our public transportation system.

Dear Lagosians, I’m happy to share that we have taken delivery of three brand-new train sets of 12 coaches in total for the Lagos Blue Line Rail. This means shorter wait times and more comfortable trips for everyone using the Blue Line. It’s a step forward in our efforts to make daily commute in Lagos less stressful and more reliable. We’re not stopping here. Work is ongoing to extend the Blue Line all the way to Okokomaiko, and we’re aiming to finish that by 2026. I know it’s been a long time coming, but I truly believe we’re building something that will change how we move around this city for the better. Thank you for being patient and hopeful. We’re getting there, together.

Later today, the First Lady, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, will formally inaugurate the Lagos State Industrial Leather Hub. This project was first conceived in 2020, and construction commenced the following year at the Matori Industrial Estate in Mushin. Today, we are proud to witness its fruition. The hub comprises two principal sections. The first is the production area, equipped with ultra modern industrial leatherwork machinery capable of mass-producing shoes, bags, belts, and other high quality leather products. The second is a commercial and business development area. This section houses shops, showrooms, training rooms, workstations, and offices thoughtfully designed to inspire creativity, foster enterprise, and support the growth of our artisans and entrepreneurs. The Lagos State Industrial Leather Hub is a testament to our shared belief in the potential of Lagosians and our commitment to building industries that generate employment, stimulate innovation, and strengthen the economy of our state.
