A small band of mustangs consisting of a stallion and two hearty mares in the first snows of winter. Northern Nevada. It’s a rough life for them when the snow falls. We’ve become friends, mainly because I help them out a little with hay. I’m not supposed to, but who’s going to stop me? He’s energetic smart and strong. He’ big..and has used his huge neck and shoulder muscles to kick bite and stomp his way to the top of the horse hierarchy. He tolerates me here because he considers me insignificant.

Mustang lore They’re just passin’ through: Near a neighborhood on the outskirts of Winnemucca Nevada I pulled over to stop for a couple bands of mustangs crossing the road. I get out to turn my camera on them… when the two big stallions in charge (Don’t even think of telling them they’re not in charge.. they certainly think they are) boldly come right up into my face to check me out! One are them it gives me the complete circuit coming within inches of me! Once he determines I’m not a threat to his charges he gallops off with the rest of the mares and foals. I can tell you even Hawk was just a little nervous with that big son of a gun eyeing me up close! The thing to remember is a wild stallion can kick your ass any day of the week🥴 Don’t piss them off!! Sound on

Wild beauty Probably the prettiest wild filly I’ve ever seen..and so demure.😌 I call her Blondie. She’s part of the local mustang band I’m familiar with, but today I decided to approach her personally. As you can see she was a bit nervous of Hawk, at first…but I won her over with my natural charm...and her natural female curiosity did the rest. She’s a sweetheart. ♥️
