Very encouraging to see that two thirds of Americans oppose tariffs on Canada! That includes a clear majority of Republican voters. We are in the fight of our lives to defend Canada against the outrageous attacks of this US Administration. But let’s not forget that, in the end, most Americans value their friendship & alliance with Canada.

Right wing “influencers” who keep attacking Prime Minister Carney with the “69 references in the Epstein files” nonsense need to stop. Here is a factual rebuttal from 🇨🇦Wayne🇨🇦. Almost all of the references are simply Carney’s name showing up in news media stories about UK monetary policy emailed to Epstein in investment newsletters. And the other references are completely unrelated to the Epstein scandal. Using this smear is no better than the kooky left wing “influencers” claiming that Anaida Poilievre is a foreign agent because her family are Venezuelan refugees; or that Pierre Poilievre can’t obtain security clearance, all of which is complete bosh. You have countless ways to offer legitimate criticisms of Liberal policies and conduct, without recklessly implying that the Prime Minister was associated with Epstein’s vile criminal enterprise. Posting this junk might drive your engagement numbers with a small number of perennially angry and terminally online people. But it does nothing to persuade rational people that Canada needs a Conservative government. And we don’t have to look far to see what can happen to influencers who debase themselves in this way. The incentives to post ever more outrageous content can lead people to where Candace Owens now finds herself, circulating ever more outlandish and defamatory conspiracy theories.

Proof that elections matter. The last Mayor of Calagry disgraced her office and our city by boycotting the Calgary City Hall Chanukkah celebration during the largest & deadliest wave of antisemitism since the Holocaust. But our newly elected Mayor Jeromy (Pathfinder) Farkas has done us proud, and given an object lesson on how to stand with the Jewish community against the bigots and haters. In the decade that we served together in Parliament, I found Francis Scarpaleggia to be unerringly courteous, thoughtful, and respectful of differing views. He respects and understands the institution, and I am sure will be an impartial defender of Parliamentary democracy. An excellent choice today by MPs!

St. John Paul the Great mandated this magnificent Byzantine chanting to be part of his funeral. As he often said, “the Church must breathe with both of her lungs” (meaning both the Western and Eastern traditions.) It is wonderful to see that Pope Francis posthumously continued this incorporation of the Byzantine tradition into his own funeral rites. I had the great privilege of attending St. JPII’s funeral, and found this Byzantine chant to be the most deeply moving part of the liturgy. Not only because of the mystical character of Byzantine chant, but because many of the Eastern Catholic Churches participating were liberated from Communist tyranny thanks in large part to the prophetic role that St. JPII had in bringing down the Iron Curtain, particularly the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
