Brett Howden got caught PK’ing without a stick in the 3rd, he went to the bench for a new one and Jarvis got a quality chance. I asked John Tortorella about that sequence: “That’s what we tell them to do. We got to take a chance — you stay on the ice without a stick and they have full control. We tell them to pick a spot, run to the bench as quickly as possible. We’ll be down another guy for those few seconds but that’s what they’re told to do — we’ll take our chances that way.” Daily Faceoff

Per Natural Stat Trick, #NYR Adam Fox and Alberts Smits have played 11:07 TOI together at 5v5. They’re usually on together after the PK, but they’re skating to a 63.16 CF% in that span with a 53.04 xGF%. I asked Mike Sullivan about them getting more runway together.

#NJDevils Jack Hughes spoke about the Hall of Fame puck: “Obviously honored that the pucks there — it’s like the most special place in hockey, so I’m honored that it’s there, but obviously I think things were taken — you know, crazy. That’s the way I felt, and I didn’t know where the puck was — so it is what it is.” H/t Peter Baugh

Hockey fans, take a few minutes to check out our segment from this morning’s show with Petey. “Surfing” has become a popular term in today’s NHL and in the game in general, and #NYR Alberts Smits is excellent at it. Not familiar with the term? Colby Cohen and I had Petey break it all down.

#NYR Alexis Lafreniere had a phenomenal game last night. Didn't bury on his chances, but he got plenty of them. That said, this is what is most important. 40 seconds left, up 2 goals, and he's on the ice to finish the game at 5v6. Blocks a shot off the draw, in a good position the entire shift with his stick on the ice, and then draws a penalty. This is the good stuff right here.
