After I was appointed as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Western Hemisphere - my first trip was not to Latin America. It was not to Canada nor the Caribbean. It was to our southern border. I strongly believe that the work to secure our hemisphere begins at our border - and Hemispheric Defense is a part of Homeland Defense. Under President Trump (Donald J. Trump) and Secretary Hegseth’s (Secretary of War Pete Hegseth) leadership, we have the most secure border in our nations history. Now we are focused on securing the Hemisphere. I’m proud to be a part of the team that is defending our Homeland and protecting the Western Hemisphere.
