Today, the Supreme Court decided to become a partner in Donald Trump's mass deportation campaign. It is shameful and cruel. Hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers will now be subject to deportation. They fled danger and violence and came to the United States in search of safety. They have raised families and contributed to our economy as healthcare workers, teachers, and more. This is not the end, and we will keep fighting.

Dr. Rubeliz Bolivar Barrios has been released! She should never have been locked away by ICE. As an emergency and trauma doctor, she served patients in South Texas with dedication. I am grateful that she will be reunited with her 5 year-old daughter Milena and husband.

Under Donald Trump, ICE has become an abusive, rouge organization. Governors like Texas Gov. Greg Abbott have made local police departments into agents of that abuse. Local law enforcement should reject partnering with ICE, and protect innocent people—like the Uzcategui-Labrador family in San Antonio—from being unlawfully detained.

The Trump Administration doesn’t want people to know about the brutality that takes place at the Dilley trailer prison—the only place in America where we imprison young children who have done nothing wrong. The food and the water make them sick. Medical care is often delayed or denied outright. The education offered is inadequate. Families are separated from one another. As a country, we cannot allow children to be treated like this. Dilley should be shut down.

ICE is running a for profit industry and locking up people like Texas court interpreter Meenu Batra, DACA recipient Juan Velasco, and Doctor Ezequiel Véliz. We've seen ICE detain, deport, and kill U.S. citizens. I am voting NO on the shutdown deal. ICE does not deserve another taxpayer dollar.
