A wise person once asked, "do you ever feel like a plastic bag?" Plastic bags are used for everything in North Carolina. You can't recycle them curbside. They get tangled in the sorting equipment and require costly repairs. And if you try to recycle them at stores, there's no guarantee they will actually be recycled. Three years ago, I put Apple AirTags in plastic bags that were placed in plastic bag recycling bins to find out if they were going to recycling centers. They weren't. Now, Mecklenburg County is creating its own plastic bag recycling program. You can drop them off at any of the county's recycling centers. The bags then go to Fiberon in Stanly County where they are transformed into deck materials.

Six seconds. That's how long CATS officials say it took Decarlos Brown to kill Iryna Zarutska. CATS confirms my previous reporting that a security officer was not on board at the time of the attack. But CATS says Brown showed no signs he was preparing to take a life. "This individual was sitting down, for all intents and purposes looked like he was just having a normal train ride. There was nothing about his demeanor. He wasn't sweating. He wasn't talking to himself. He wasn't interfacing in a manner that would have triggered attention to him that he was about to do a heinous act. And then all of a sudden, you see his face change. He commits the act and it's in a split second." Here's Part 1 of Hunter Sáenz's report

CMPD, family members and witnesses tell WSOCTV Joseph Andrade targeted strangers in a deadly crime spree across Charlotte Thursday. Hunter Sáenz and I had team coverage of this today. Police say Andrade shot and killed Justin Carlton. Carlton's mom tells Hunter that her son did not know Andrade and that he was "in the wrong place at the wrong time." Carlton's mom says Andrade shot and killed Carlton before stealing his car and then crashing it. This happened near Hoskins Avenue and Black Street. A second victim, who hasn't been identified, was also shot. Neighbors say after Andrade crashed Carlton's car, he stole another car but shortly later crashed it into a home under construction. Surveillance video captured Andrade sprinting away from the scene and turning on to Cloudman Steet where police say he broke into a home, kidnapped a woman and stole her SUV. Neighbors tell Hunter that it was random and it happened in front of her child. The video from Charlitt shows the tail end of what happened next. CMPD saw the suspect vehicle and started a chase. It came to an end in Wesley Heights. A witness I spoke to says Andrade essentially got boxed in at the Morehead/Freedom intersection because of traffic. That's when the female kidnapping victim got out of the vehicle and ran and when Andrade got out of the car and started shooting at CMPD. CMPD officers returned fire and killed him. Not much is known about 28-year-old Joseph Andrade at this time Story:

It's an open secret that fares aren't consistently enforced on the Blue Line. A federal study noted that when fare enforcement doesn't happen there's often an increase in crime on transit. CATS does not know if Decarlos Brown purchased a ticket when was on board and police say he killed Iryna Zarutska. Even if he did, as we previously reported, there wasn't a security officer on board to check Part 2 of Hunter Sáenz's report
