Timo Werner being a genuine +++ player on the ball in MLS is a huge, huge victory for the San Jose Earthquakes. This is a downright filthy assist for the winner in Philly last night. Werner has looked excellent in MLS so far.

Austin FC's Guilherme Biro shouldn't see the field for a long, long time after this horrific tackle on Riqui Puig. Gross. Absolutely gross.

James Rodriguez is still must-see TV. In his first MLS start for Minnesota United, the Colombian was a constant source of danger in both open play and on set pieces 🇨🇴 Such a fun watch.

Neil Pierre's is the toolsiest center back to come through the USMNT pipeline in...forever? The 18-year-old is 6'7" and moves well for his size. Strong, too. He makes tracking back to win the ball + body a physical striker in Osaze De Rosario look easy. Promising talent. 🇺🇸

Maybe the Philadelphia Union should get Cavan Sullivan on the field more often? The 16-year-old has been Philly's brightest creative spark in his limited minutes so far this season 🇺🇸

Outside of Christian Pulisic, there are exactly zero players who have played for the USMNT under Mauricio Pochettino who can reliably beat a defender one-v-one from speed and dribbling ability from the wing. Zavier Gozo can. Won't be long before we see him with the 🇺🇸

There's been a lot of deserved love for Zavier Gozo and Diego Luna this year, but Sergi Solans is a DP-level striker in MLS. Plucked out of college soccer. Fantastic, well-rounded striker for Real Salt Lake.

St. Louis City's clever off-ball movement continues to impress. Here's a lovely third-man run from Marcel Hartel that helps open the scoring for St. Louis in their 3-0 win over Austin FC. Few teams in MLS are more coordinated off the ball than St. Louis under new leadership.

Cucho Hernandez is out of this world 🇨🇴✨ How on earth did he see this pass, let alone put it on a dime? You won't find a more versatile No. 9 than the Columbus Crew star in North America.

Nectarios Triantis is the best player in MLS that no one outside of Minnesota seems to talk about 🇬🇷 The 22-year-old center-mid bossed the Loons' frigid win over Cincy. There isn’t an MLS player in their 20s that I’m more certain will end up in the Premier League than Triantis.

Justin Ellis is a prospect unlike virtually any the U.S. has ever produced 🇺🇸 Oh, and he’s the only Orlando City teammate Antoine Griezmann follows on Instagram. Here’s why Ellis is different — and special.

St. Louis City are MLS's hottest team in with 16 unbeaten in league play + a spot in the U.S. Open Cup final 🔴 One thing fueling them? Yoann Damet's clever tactical setup. 3-diamond-3. Tons of flexibility. Truly rare stuff in MLS. I broke it down on the Total Soccer Show 🎙️

It's been all the rage this summer for MLS teams to send players to the Premier League in eight-figure transfers. With Gozo and Herrington gone, who's next? It's time to talk about Manu Duah, a tremendous young center back still new to the position.

Allan Saint-Maximin has already become one of MLS's must-watch players. 100th percentile dribbler + passing is a threat. ASM's quick switches created chances for Biel vs. Houston. I imagine ASM + Biel will continue to understand each other better, too. Charlotte FC are fun.

It feels like every week in MLS, another quality young player shines. The latest name to know? Andrei Chirila. 17, CB, FC Cincinnati. Eligible for the USMNT and Romania, Chirila put on a legitimately impressive left-footed passing display against Red Bull New York. 🇺🇸🇷🇴

The most interesting story in MLS right now is Sporting Kansas City's rebuild 🔷 💰 Becoming Midwest Miami 💰 Big-money cashfer hope 💰 Three new DPs in one window? Talent badly needed, but no team has a bigger chance to add stars before deadline day. From Total Soccer Show 🎙️

The United States has never produced a player like Adri Mehmeti, who's the best teenager in MLS. Just 17. Plays like a veteran, but does things even MLS vets can’t do. Can’t wait to see where Mehmeti's career takes him 🇺🇸

St. Louis City might be the Columbus Crew now, because this is some lovely work to get out of pressure. First win of St. Louis' new era for Yoann Damet and Corey Wray. Building blocks starting to show — and more talent still to be integrated.

Obed Vargas and the Seattle Sounders put on a clinic for how to deal with Lionel Messi in the first half. As Taylor Twellman noted on the broadcast, they're body-checking Messi -- or at least tracking his runs -- so he can't run free after he hits a pass.
