This is what we call strip tilling. We literally only disturb the ground where the rows of crop will be planted. There is a trash whipper to move the previous crop residue and then the shank goes in the ground approximately 8 inches deep and places the fertilizer at whatever depth you prefer. The wavie discs are slightly angled to fill the void from the shank and a packer wheel to pack it all.

When I said farming sucks right now I meant we are in a drought. Farmers and ranchers are used to price fluctuations and we can deal with that. This drought is way bigger than me. I put this out because Colorado supplies water to other states that are hurting as well. Pray for rain not just for me but for all who are struggling.

We need a rain. This is shaping up to be a really long summer. No rain no snow breaking temp records already. The only thing green around here is wheat and alfalfa. It is going backwards everyday. The south platte is at 36 percent snowpack. We are in trouble.

Rough day yesterday. Baler had a catastrophic break down so I had to replace it but on the bright side look at the green 1st cutting bales. Hilltops were a little light but overall really good alfalfa.
