🚨Plaid Cymru were left ‘horrified’ and ‘frightened’ by my contribution defending the British Empire and the importance of teaching history honestly. 😳 The British Empire was ultimately a force for good in the world, and judged by historical standards, rather than contemporary ones, it was a beacon of moral virtue. Our ancestors gave everything, their money and even their lives, abolishing slavery, only for that to be thrown back in their faces. (THIS DOESN’T MEAN IT WAS MORALLY GOOD ALL THE TIME, ONLY WHEN JUDGED AS A WHOLE AND IN ITS HISTORICAL CONTEXT). The British are a special people, with a glorious history. Something to be grateful for, something to be taught honestly. 🇬🇧
