One of the coolest things about Rango is that it wasn't animated the usual way... The cast actually acted out many scenes together on a stage first, using props and costumes so the animators could capture more natural performances. Also, Rango became the first non-Disney/Pixar film to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature after the category was introduced.

His anxiety was legit rooted in real-world stakes...because when the first Rio movie came out, the Spix's Macaw was already incredibly rare, and by the time this sequel scene took place, the species was officially declared extinct in the wild in the real world, surviving only in captivity.
