$Since being told I had just two months to live (five years ago now!), I’ve probably battled 20–25 brutal jaw infections from the radiotherapy. My jaw is fractured and breaking down. I can’t really complain — I’m still here — but the truth is these infections are excruciating, and they always knock me back. Radiation can work wonders against cancer cells, but osteoradionecrosis of the jaw is a serious, complex price to pay. I know the infections will keep coming. I also know I’ll keep taking the hits, getting back up, and carrying on. Normal service resumes, then it doesn’t. That’s life: messy, painful, unpredictable, but still worth fighting for.$
