This is the Jordan River, Israel, the place where Jesus was baptized, where Elijah ascended to heaven, and where Joshua crossed on his way to Jericho. At Bethany Beyond the Jordan 📍, according to the Gospels, John the Baptist baptized Jesus, marking the beginning of His public ministry. The heavens opened, the Holy Spirit descended like a dove, and a voice declared, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” For centuries, pilgrims from around the world have traveled to this sacred site along the Jordan River, traditionally known as Bethany Beyond the Jordan, to reflect, pray, and reconnect with the origins of their faith. Archaeological discoveries in this area, including ancient churches, baptismal pools, and pilgrim paths dating back to the Roman and Byzantine periods, confirm that early Christians also recognized and honored this location.
