We're in completely unprecedented territory. Never had a president who intentionally tried to divide America. Never has a presidency been this corrupt. But the Founding Fathers warned us. They studied how democratic republics die. They knew about demagogues—people who inflame populist passions, divide people to seize power, then undermine liberty. That's what we're facing right now. The other danger I see is the the growing gap between the super rich and everyone else. That's how democracies die too. Teddy Roosevelt took on both the radicals and the reactionaries. He understood that extreme inequality destabilizes democracy itself. We need to build that vital center. That radical center. Not left, not right—forward. That's our task now.

Election Day is tomorrow. To defend American democracy, we need to build a broad, patriotic coalition and we need to police our extremes. But Nick LaLota has shown he’s too partisan to stand up to his own party’s extremes and continues to engage with those who were part of the 1/6 insurrection. Suffolk County deserves better — that’s what I will deliver in Congress: country over party, common sense over chaos.
