The vicious attacker who attempted to murder a man in north Belfast last night is now in police custody. My thoughts remain with the victim, his family & the local residents who witnessed such traumatic & distressing scenes. The courage & quick actions of local people & the police who intervened to disarm the attacker undoubtedly prevented further harm & deserve the highest praise. I was on the ground today speaking with local people & will continue to engage closely with the community & the PSNI as the investigation progresses. We must allow justice to take its course & ensure the perpetrator faces the full weight of the law.

The DUP is blocking: 👶🏼 Paid leave for parents when their baby needs neonatal care. ❌ An end to exploitative zero-hour contracts. 💰 Ensuring workers keep 100% of their tips. 🤝 Stronger protections for agency workers & unpaid carers. These are part of our Good Jobs Bill, backed by the vast majority of parties. Sinn Féin will not give up. We will work together with others to get these laws passed & better the lives of workers and families.

The acquittal of Soldier F is an incredibly disappointing day for the families of Bloody Sunday. Their campaign for truth & justice has inspired so many families, including my own. It remains one of the gravest injustices in our history that, after 53 years, not a single person has been convicted in relation to Bloody Sunday. My full support & solidarity are with these families. Their resolve, courage & tenacity are admirable. My party & I will continue to stand with them in their fight for justice.

This case was never about democracy, public safety, or justice. It’s about the British state using the courts to police culture, criminalise dissent, & decide which voices are acceptable. When prosecutors keep returning to a case that has already fallen, it raises serious questions about motive, not merit. Today in London, I stood in solidarity with Mo Chara and Kneecap. You cannot silence artists, movements, or a people through intimidation or legal pressure. The more this approach is pursued, the clearer it becomes that freedom of expression is what’s really on trial.

The British government’s decision to further frustrate & delay a public inquiry into the murder of Sean Brown is both cruel & shameful. For nearly 28 years, the Brown family have campaigned for truth with immense courage, grace & dignity — in stark contrast to the cynical & obstructionist actions of the British state. Five High Court judges have been unequivocal — the only path to justice is a full public inquiry. By continuing to delay, the British government is actively denying the Brown family their fundamental right to truth & justice. It is time for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer & his government to end this relentless insult to Bridie Brown & her family. A public inquiry must be established without delay.

I welcome the commitment from the British government that it will now begin the process of repealing the Tories’ shameful Legacy Act. This cruel legislation failed victims & families, & we will now engage with the new government to see what their approach will be. Sinn Féin will continue to stand with families in their dignified campaign for truth & justice.
