GIMME SOME TRUTH I'm sick and tired of hearing things From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics All I want is the truth Just give me some truth I've had enough of reading things By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians All I want is the truth Just give me some truth No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of Tricky Dicky Is going to Mother Hubbard soft soap me With just a pocketful of soap Money for dope Money for rope I'm sick to death of seeing things From tight-lipped, condescending, mama's little chauvinists All I want is the truth Just give me some truth, now I've had enough of watching scenes With schizophrenic, egocentric, paranoiac, primadonnas All I want is the truth, now-now Just give me some truth.

INSANE OBJECTIVES. I think our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. And I think that’s what I sussed when I was sixteen and twelve, way down the line. But I expressed it differently all through my life. It’s the same thing I’m expressing all the time, but now I can put it into that sentence that I think we're being run by maniacs for maniacal ends, you know. If anybody can put on paper what our government and the American government, etc., Russian, Chinese – what they are actually trying to do, and what they think they’re doing, I’d be very pleased to know what they think they're doing. I think they’re all insane, you know. But I’m liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. You know, that’s what’s insane about it. John Lennon, 6 June 1968

AWARENESS AND THE SYSTEM Yoko: The public believes that there's somebody up there who's very powerful because they're rich and they control the media etcetera. And they think, 'Oh, we don't have the control so we can't do it.' And we have this negativism all the time. But that's not what it is at all. They're not powerful because they're rich and they control the media. They're powerful, sadly enough because they are 'aware' and they're trying to keep other people ignorant. If our awareness level gets to the same level as they are, we outnumber them. So there's nothing they can do. John: Who is 'they'? Well, whoever 'they' are - That kept the workers uneducated. That sent children down in the mines in the Industrial Revolution in England. Who tried not to educate people. We're all part of a system, in a way, and 'they' includes us, too. #powertothepeople

I AM THE WALRUS. 🔵 Listen in Spatial Audio on Apple Music → The first line was written on one acid trip one weekend. I was running through the house and I just typed on the typewriter 'I am he as you are he as we are all together' and that was lying on the typewriter for about three weeks before it became a song. That was the whole song right in that line. And that was an acid trip line, and it was a great effort to just put in on the typewriter. For those of you who know those kind of things. So that line was written and left on the typewriter there for two or three weeks until I went to look at it on the next acid trip the next weekend and subsequently filled in after I met Yoko. I did have this idea of doing a song that was the police siren, you know. Didn’t work in the end, because you couldn’t really sing with police siren. Yellow matter custard and all that is an English children's chant – 'Yellow matter custard, green snot pie, all mixed together with a dead dog's eye. Spread it on a butty, Spread it on thick, Then wash it down with a cup of cold sick' – That was a Liverpool kids song. I’d seen Allen Ginsberg and some other people who liked Dylan and Jesus go on about Hare Krishna. It was Ginsberg, in particular, I was referring to. The words ‘Elementary Penguin’ meant that it’s naïve to just go around chanting 'Hare Krishna' or putting all your faith in one idol. It was 'The Walrus and The Carpenter', Alice and Wonderland. And it was only years later that I went back to check because I never went into that bit about what Lewis Carroll really meant. Like what people are doing with the Beatles' work or anybody's work, digging into it. Lewis Carroll was commenting on Capitalist and Socialist systems at the time. The Walrus and the Carpenter representing social positions. It had never dawned on me anything like that. To me it was just a beautiful poem. And then I look back after 'I Am The Walrus' and people have gone in to all this depth of what it really means, and it just meant nothing. You know it’s just an image. It’s like asking Fellini what does that image two thirds of the way through 'Juliet of the Spirits' mean? It doesn’t mean anything without the rest of it. You can isolate a frame and talk about it forever. And it's just a game. But I did look back at the Walrus and I said 'I Am The Walrus' but the Carpenter is the good guy in that story, apparently. Right? I thought oh shit, I picked the bad guy. You know. I should have said, ‘I Am The Carpenter’ but it doesn’t make sense. People draw so many conclusions and it’s ridiculous… What does it really mean, ‘I am the eggman’? It could have been the pudding basin for all I care. It’s not that serious. You know, you just stick a few images together, thread them together, and you call it poetry. Well, maybe it is poetry. But I was just using the mind that wrote 'In His Own Write' to write that song. ‘Everybody’s got one! Everybody’s got one!’ There was even some live BBC radio on one track. They were reciting Shakespeare and I just fed whatever lines were on the radio into the song. That was live radio coming from the BBC, though they never knew it. When I was mixing the record, I just had a radio in the room that was tuned to some BBC channel all the time, and we did about, I don’t know, half a dozen mixes, and I just used whatever was coming through at the time. I never knew it was King Lear till years later somebody told me, because I could hardly make out what he was saying. I didn’t know where it came from. If I said, ‘I want the radio on it,’ George [Martin] would make it so that I could mix in there and the radio would be coming through the machines. It was interesting to mix the whole thing with a live radio coming through it. So that’s the secret of that one. E.L.O. is son of 'I am the Walrus' forever and ever and ever. If somebody wants 'I am the Walrus' music, they just have to buy E.L.O. records. Jeff Lynne's ELO I AM THE WALRUS.
