We won't relent until the proponents of fake finance bill will have nothing left to concoct. Today I visited a number of phone retail shops within Nairobi CBD where I had direct mutual engagements with respective business owners on the 25% proposed excise duty. The proposed Finance Bill 2026 aims to simplify the tax structure by collapsing multiple upfront port-of-entry charges on mobile phones into a single, deferred excise duty. This shifts the tax collection away from the importation stage, instead charging a single KRA levy only when the device is bought and activated.
