📺VP Mike Pence on the Populist Right "It's a movement that seems intent on chipping away at that long tradition of commitment to conservative principles. Reminds me a little bit of a story of a farmer who brought his family into town. They were walking down the street, farmer, wife, two little kids, and a three-legged pig walking right next to him. Apparently, a friend looked out from his shop and saw him walking down the street, and he walked up to the farmer, and he said, you know, “So what's with the pig?” And the farmer said, “Hey, that's no ordinary pig.” He said, “When my daughter was little, she fell into the pond. That pig jumped in, grabbed a hold of her, saved her life.” And he said, “Oh,” and he said, “One night when we smelt smoke in our house, that pig came running into the house, got everybody out of bed, saved our whole family.” And so, his friend said to him, “That's really remarkable.” And he said, “What's with the three legs?” And the farmer said, “Well, you don't eat a pig like that all at once.” I mean, the truth is, from the outside in our movement, there are people that have been nibbling away at the very principles that have made America strong and prosperous and free and have defined the conservative agenda. In fact, in many respects, in recent years, we've seen our movement tossed about in a tempest of populism, protectionism, and on occasion even isolationism.
