Malibu’s iconic sand castles are crumbling… one at a time. This has been a numbing and terrifying 14 hours in California history.

These are Paradise California conditions in the Palisades. We were in a neighborhood as it went up in flames. Mass panic in the streets, and the worst of the wind will hit the Palisades Fire tonight

This is Bowdoin St in Pacific Palisades. Every home is on fire. Crews aren’t trying to save them. They’re trying to put out flames before they ignite other neighborhoods.

American homes were built for an environment that no longer exists. This - like all of the disasters this century, from Florida to Hawaii - must be a call to action. This is the second time in one month Malibu was hit by fire.

More from Pacific Palisades. Unimaginable loss. Lives changed forever. Fires still rage along with 100mph gusts. Firefighters look like they’re attending a wake.

It’s heartbreaking to witness the loss of a vibrant community. So many landmarks have already been lost to the Palisades Fire and sadly the worst is yet to come. So far the fire has not reached the Palisades Village - the main shopping area, but flames are blocks away.

Via De Las Paz, Pacific Palisades Many homes standing but threatened by flames. I tried to go to as many neighborhoods as were requested. Sadly most surrounding the downtown r damaged or destroyed. From what I’ve seen the estimated 1000 destroyed homes will increase significantly

Swarthmore Ave, Pacific Palisades

Easily dozens of homes in this neighborhood on Las Lomas Ave are gone. Firefighters can’t gain access to many neighborhoods because of blocked roads. The worst of the wind - 100mph gusts - are forecasted tonight as the Palisades Fire explodes in size.

Day 16 of fire weather. Happening now the Hughes Fire near Castaic Lake exploding in size, being pushed from remote mountains now threatening neighborhoods.

This is what’s left of the Pacific Palisades. The mall survived. Most everything else is gone. Homes, apartment complexes… businesses.

The Palisades Fire moved in so quickly, evacuees panicked. Every car represents someone or a family that, in fear, abandoned their cars, and fled on foot. The wind could reach 100 mph tonight.

This is not typical wildfire season. Last year around this time we were covering an atmospheric river. Apocalyptic. And sadly the Palisades Fire has only just begun.

Neighborhood after neighborhood… GONE. This is the heart of the Palisades.

This is Malibu on the PCH. A hellscape. So many homes are on fire it’s unusual to see a home that is not.

It’s been nearly TWO days since the Pacific Palisades fire started and still not enough fire fighters. No fire fighters on this burning home… with several homes threatened. I’ve never scene something like this so late in the game.

There are so many people wanting to know the fate of their homes and businesses. Will try to post clips here when service permits. There are still active fires all around town which is why residents aren’t being allowed back.
