Road Safety, Growth and the Future Fighting over stages and competing among ourselves is only making the boda boda industry more difficult and risky. Yes, taking risks is sometimes part of earning a living, but we must also remember that life is more important than any stage or any fare. As boda boda riders, we should support one another instead of constantly arguing and fighting over spaces. Road safety should come first—respect other road users, follow traffic rules, and avoid unnecessary conflicts that can put lives at risk. Personally, I believe you are not supposed to remain in one place for your entire life. We are meant to grow, learn, and move forward. Maybe one day I will leave the boda boda industry and pursue something different. Whatever the future holds, my commitment to road safety and protecting lives will remain. 🦺🏍️🙏

This morning at the Pangani–Murang'a Road flyover, another painful reminder of where crime can lead unfolded before our eyes. Two young men, neatly dressed and full of energy, allegedly attempted to snatch a phone before the victim raised the alarm, shouting, "Mwizi! Mwizi!" The suspects were caught by members of the public before police arrived. Tragically, the motorcycle rider died at the scene, while the other suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition. It is heartbreaking to think that someone may leave home telling their family they are going to work, while secretly engaging in criminal activities. No phone—whether an iPhone or a Samsung—is worth risking your life, your future, or another person's safety. A motorcycle itself is a valuable investment, but a human life is priceless. As a bodaboda rider, I want to make it clear that the vast majority of riders earn an honest living. We do not want criminals hiding behind our industry and damaging the reputation of hardworking riders. That is why we worked with security officers to ensure the situation was handed over to the authorities. To my fellow bodaboda riders: be careful who you lend your motorcycle to. You may trust a friend, but you may not know everything they do outside your presence. Protect your livelihood, protect your name, and protect our industry. Let's continue working together with law enforcement to make Nairobi safer. Crime has no place in our communities, and every rider has a responsibility to stand for honesty, safety, and the rule of law. Enough is enough.

A Tuktuk rider hit a Defender from behind. Thank God, no one was injured. What caught my attention in this video is the police officer arguing while the man and the lady in the Audi exchange numbers after the lady hit a Mercedes wagon from behind. 😂 Having money is good, but for us who drive tuk-tuks and bodas, let’s respect each other on the road. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO BBS MALL? HOW WERE YOU HANDLED, AND WHAT DID YOU SEE THAT YOU FELT WAS WRONG? BBS Mall: We Need Respect, Fairness and Safe Enforcement As a bodaboda rider, I want to raise a concern about what happens at BBS Mall in Eastleigh. This is not about attacking the mall, the police, or anyone’s religion. It is about how security and enforcement are handled and how riders are treated. At places like Sarit Centre, Two Rivers and Westgate, there are designated areas where bodaboda riders can drop off or pick up passengers. But at BBS Mall, it can feel like dropping or picking a passenger comes with unnecessary confrontation. Why can’t there be a clear, peaceful and properly managed dropping and picking point for bodaboda and Uber motorbike riders? As riders, we also face another concern. There have been situations in Eastleigh where we have helped catch suspected phone snatchers or criminals, only to find that security officers are not immediately available. Yet when it comes to controlling bodaboda riders around the mall, officers can be very present and sometimes use rungus in a manner that feels intimidating. I also want to raise a point about Muslim women who visit the mall. Many observe their culture and dress and sit in ways that preserve their dignity. When officers place rungus or barriers around motorcycle wheels or confront riders aggressively, management should consider whether such enforcement is respectful and appropriate for everyone using the premises. Security is important, but security should never mean humiliation or unnecessary harassment. BBS Mall is a major shopping centre, and it should have a professional system that accommodates pedestrians, private motorists, bodaboda riders, Uber riders and customers peacefully. We are not asking to be above the law. We are asking for clear rules, designated pickup and drop-off points, respectful enforcement and equal treatment. If other major malls in Kenya can organise their traffic and motorcycle access professionally, why can't BBS Mall do the same? As a bodaboda rider and someone who advocates for road safety, I believe enforcement should protect people not create unnecessary conflict. Let us find a better way. 🦺🏍️
