Welcome to King Street, Wigan. A local described this street to me as a “no man’s land” and warned me to be careful here on a Saturday night. Last night, a Saturday, it was chaotic and busy, full of young people heading to the clubs for a night out. Today it looked like a post-apocalyptic landscape. The contrast between the beautiful old buildings and the sleazy clubs, bars and takeaways which now occupy half of the street is impossible to ignore. The unoccupied buildings, and some of the occupied ones, are falling apart. It’s painful to travel around Britain and see the country’s decline. This street would have been beautiful once.

I discovered the WhatsApp video note feature yesterday. I decided to use it when walking to my hotel yesterday evening to reply to someone who asked how my day was just to be a bit goofy. While I was talking, I noticed a small group of foreign men watching me from outside a takeaway shop on the other side of the street. You can just about see one of them in the doorway of the green building. Another two were in the silver car. I’m sure some people will think this is fake because all you can really see is my reaction but I want to talk about this issue anyway. I’m sick of being leered at and having to look over my shoulder all the time like this to check if I’m being followed. Obviously nothing serious happened here. They grinned at me and kept their eyes locked onto me for a long time and nothing more. But this sort of low-level harassment has a huge impact on women and girls. We have to always be alert just in case. It’s exhausting. It makes us feel unsafe. Mass immigration of men from cultures with very different attitudes towards women has robbed British women and girls of the ability to walk down the street carefree. We shouldn’t have to live like this. I refuse to accept this as the new normal. This is an unacceptable price the little girls of today will have to pay when they grow up for the supposed benefits of immigration. This is the very least of the harassment women face from immigrants and it’s still too much.
