mark’s speech for the world, at the world environment day 2026 “hello everybody, my name is mark lee. it is an honor to be here today. thank you so much for inviting me to world environment day and to Azerbaijan here in Baku. it is a beautiful city. before i sing you guys a song, i would like to tell you a short story. i visited kenya earlier this year, and at that time, i was going through a very important time in my life. i had to make a very important decision for my career and for my life. and so i had a lot of people giving me advice, asking me questions that i didn’t really know the answer to. i was going through a strange, confusing period of time. but i was in kenya and so i went on a safari. i saw so many beautiful animals, and i saw a lion. and at that moment, i kind of realized that sometimes its not really important to know the answer to all these questions or to know if you’re perfectly ready for everything, but rather whether you’re willing to take the next step toward real change. so i made this song in kenya. its called “ready or not” and if i am correct and if we’re all getting the same memo, i do believe that our planet is asking us the same question. not whether we’re ready, but whether we’re willing to raise our voices and take this step. whether we’re willing to care enough to create real change. i believe our souls all have this longing for a better world and i think thats one of the truest pieces of evidence there is that a better world could exist for everybody.”

mark explained the confidence behind his big decision “that kind of thing felt so precious. i mean, even putting aside security, money, all these things.. the fact that i still had something i wanted to achieve. that felt so precious. ive always wanted to do things well, to really reach the top in everything. as someone who wakes up every day with this drive to live at my best, i began to wonder, “what does ‘the best’ actually mean? and whats my ultimate dream? what is the greatest thing i can leave behind in this life, in this world?” so everything started connecting. and if this is the greatest dream i believe in, then i needed to commit to it with my absolute best effort. honestly, everyone in this world is living by their own standards and who you are depends on, the standards you live by. but honestly, ive always had a bit of a loser mindset, what a man should be? and i never felt like that matched who i am. ive always had a complex about that, like rough or edgy and not too exemplary either. but suddenly i got confused about all that. i ended up talking about it to david, david kept asking me “what is that coolness you have in your head?” that made me dig deep and really think. i realized i should actually live by what’s ‘good’ and i need to express that through music. so i found this dream of showing ‘goodness’, i want to show the world what real goodness is and making music like that. ultimately, for the next generation.. i really want to show the next generation what that is. so my dream became very clear. you can be good and also be cool, i want to create a new kind of cool. i truly want that and i want to live it and achieve it in my own life. i realized this is truly something worth dedicating your life to.”

genia mentioned her project with mark in a billboard interview! “just seeing his transition from being in a group to becoming a solo artist is very inspiring, just being able to hear his story as well, seeing the excitement in his eyes about being able to fully take control of his creative, be able to experiment because thats a big thing that he had me mentioned to all of us in the room which was he wants to experiment, he wants to be more vulnerable with his audience, he wants to tell his story in his own way. so it was honestly an honor being able to bring that to life. especially me an upcoming artist, just being able to see such a huge artist like that be open to my ideas as well, open to my opinions, open to my creative and my insight on how we can bring his story to life was amazing. hes so talented, so easy to work with, so versatile, and theres a variety of music that i feel like his fans are really gonna love on this project.”
